My 73 cal, Orion barrel. Jerry suggested starting at 175FF and going to whatever you can stand. Some folks are shooting a patched round ball with 225 grains of FF.
I use 125FF.
It will shoot 3 shots into 1.1/2" at 100 yds.

I like underhammers and bought mine back in the '60s.

A friend and I bought a 42" 36 call barrel and sawed it in two about 1985.

We made 2 Buggy rifles. That was the start of underhammers.

I still have mine, sort of. It has gone thru 3 improvements.

Late 1980s vintage

A Green Mountain 1" x 28" .54 cal. Birds Eye Maple stock.

Has a lot of drop at the heel, but handles 95FFF and a patched .535 round ball quite well.

I have a couple questions (probably stupid ones). I don't know diddly squat about underhammers but am interested. How do you keep the primer from falling off? Can you shoot saboted bullets with one?
