I purchased some .40 caliber 155 grain barnes all coppers to shoot in my .50 cal SMI. Does anyone know approximately how many grains of 5744 I can safely shoot with this load?

I tried the same load (41 grains) I was using for 200 grain Hornady's and it was WAY low. Like 4 feet at 100 yards. I assume I am not getting enough pressure in the chamber? I contacted SMI but they have NO information to give me regarding 5744.

Any help would be appreciated.

5744 may be too slow for that light of bullet in a .50 cal. You may need to use more powder but that could spike the pressure to a dangerous level. You may do a lot better using VV N-110 if you can find it in your area.

Thats kinda what I was thinking but I'm not real experienced with this stuff. I will either switch powders or just shoot a heavier bullet.

Anybody else got any suggestions?
