Thanks for the info. on the Croix de Lorraine.
On to Jon's question:
No I don't use tacks, I use Nickel Plated Antique Brass spots. They have 2 "tines" on the back and I use a special setter to attach them. It "drives" the tines right through the leather, then I turn the leather over and fold the tines to secure the spot to the sheath. They look exactly like the old Tacks seen on museum grade leather work. Normally, I'd say that's cheatin' but since you can never see the back side of the spots, I go more for authentic looks than true period correct hardware. If I DID use real antique, period correct tacks, I'd have to jack up my prices and folks don't want to pay what I'm charging now? So it's a winning move all around.
Thanks for the revised drawing, but I still think the blade will be too wide to fit past the welt? I'm going to make one that looks exactly like your drawing, BUT it may have to be a bit different in size from your original sketches in order to work? Thanks again for your help Buck.
