After my morning hunt I took the 45 to the range for a sight in.
these are the first shots from this gun.
It has a Simmons 3x9x50 on it

CVA Kodiak
45 cal
Stainless
Fluted

No swabing all day.
significant blow back in the breech area and the BP looked awful but it never misfired.

Maybe I'll use some teflon tape on this BP.

The targets are printed on standard printer paper 8.5 x 11
I didn't do any measuring of distance for the shots,I don't shoot well enough for that.

This gun is very pleasant to shoot but I prefer a break open rifle VS the drop action.I find it a little hard to clean and prime.

I did one shot @ 20yards to get on paper(no target to post for that) then moved to 50 yards

Weather Conditions
88 degrees
98 % Humidity
no wind
Or just plain old HOT!!!!!!

First target
90 grn BH 209
Precision Rifles QT 250 grn BT
W-209
I made scope adjustments after each shot.
#5 put me where I wanted it

Second Target
Moved back to 100 yards.
90 grn BH 209
PR Dead Center 195 grn
W-209
Scope adjustments after each shot

I did some work with the weed wacker at the range and extended it to 150 yards.

3rd Target
Same load as #2 but @ 150 yards
No scope adjustments
This target is marked with the wrong bullet.
I should be the DC 195

I shot better at 150 than any of the others.
My shooting needs allot of work but I did achieve Minute of Deer accuracy.

here are a couple pictures of my range at the sign in building at my lease.
Someone made the mistake of leaving a Bobcat out there with the key so I made a range. 4.600 acres and no one to bother.
Had some spare metal around and made this rest.

Looking down range from 50 yards.
That target is small

This session today instilled allot of confidance for deer hunting out to 150 for me.I think it is the first time I have had two shots touching at that distance.

Well,I'm back out for an evening hunt with my crossbow.
I havent seen a deer yet but have shot a couple hogs.

Muzzleloader season opens saturday morning here.
Good luck to all.

Thanks for the bullets Lane.
You were right about the DC's they shoot good.
You are a gentelman and a scholar.
Lot's of folks like that on here.

wow thats some excellent shooting!! What the hell dude, look at the size of that scope! Saxman, you plan on doing any Snipering with that? lol

BTW, those powerbelts are in the mail

Thanks FG.
that is a whopper isn't it.
A $40 whopper that has put some game on the ground in it's day.
It was on my Encore in 08 when I shot the buck and doe in Alabama.
There it is in my Avatar

Good job! glad you were able to get out....

You really do need to try some of the Hornady 40x200 grain XTP's. They shoot awesome, flat, and are devastating... They are inexpensive and beat the heck out what you are shooting now.

Didn't I send you some them a long time ago - way back when?

Yes you did but I think they were for the 50 cal or does it just use a different sabot?

I just saw some at G.M for $10 a box

Just need a different sabot for those 200 grain XTPs.

I would like to get some of the Harvester .50/.40 sabots but ordering a bag to try seems outrageously high priced since you can only get them from Harvester directly (so far as I know).

Good shooting! Especially at 150 yards.

Yes, you do need a different sabot - do you still have some left - bullets?

$10 in todays world of prices is excellent....

Harvester and MMP both make sabots for the .40 cal to go in a 45 cal barrel. Harvesters are less expensive than the MMP

Hey Sax, good shooting, good gun, good report, and all that. But you went a little too far calling Lane a gentlemen and scholar. (Even though he is.)

Nice shooting there Sax! Glad some of those bullets are working out for ya

Once ya get one of those 195-200grainers in a tight group, you'll be surprised just how close the rest of them will be to the same POA 8)

And Semi....I resemble that remark :x I Think.... :p

Yes,I found them. The package is marked
Hornady,10mm / 200 gr XTP / 40 cal
They are hollow points Correct?
I have 24 of them

These will shoot in the 45? or will they shoot in 45 & 50 with different sabots?

Thanks again Lane
I love the new tubes.
I'm going to shoot again with 110 gr BH 209 per your suggestion and see how they group.

I will take my potable shooting bench and Chrony next time and try to eliminate ME from the equaison.

I meant to add to the report that I had no trouble loading all day.
Need to make a list of what to include in my reports so they are complete and accurate.
