I am trying to ascertain two things for my Knight KRB in 50 CAL. First, is this bullet too long to fit in these sabots?

50 Cal Crushed Rib Sabot for .400 Cal Bullet - Pack Qty: 50

Second, would my 1:28" twist stabilize that long of a bullet? I REALLY like the B.C. on that 40. I know I'll have to swage down that .412" to fit the sabot, but that's easily remedied. The NOE bullet mold I'm considering.

Thanks, all!

I have never tried those, sure be long rascals for a 1:28 twist. I try to keep mine sq. to the bore .50 x2 1.00" on conicals. There are members on here that most likely have tried something along that size. They will chime in as they see n read your post.

I agree, that’s a really long bullet for a 28 twist. I’ve gotten .45 cal 495 gr bullets (1.20” long) in a .45/.50 sabot to shoot in one of my .50 Whites but that has a faster twist.

The rule of thumb is that you’ll most often have an easier time finding a low-dispersion load with saboted bullets that are closer in diameter to the bore (ie .452 and .458 in a .50).

I think you’d have to try it to know for sure.

My go to mold comes from Tom@ Accurate molds and use the Harvester blue crushed rib and works great ! The harvester Sabot tells you 300 grains (mine drop @ 301 with pure and under and it works in both my Optima CVA 50 V2 pistol /Optima V2 rifle (both 1-28 and extremely accurate (pistol )scoped to 200 yds

FWIW,

Greenhill says my 1:26" 52 Knight DE should stabilize a .458" bullet 1.21" long. I've test fired 3 or 4 Lyman 457125 bullets that are 1.36" long (1.36/1.21=1.234) in Knight .52/.458 sabots. At 20 yards they were flying point first, cutting round entrance holes plus penetrating straight and deep into pine logs. I think POI was about 8" to 12" lower than 500 grn .520 slugs and the group was around 1.5" - 2" across.

IIRC there was more bullet hanging cantilevered in front of the sabot than was riding inside it. Never tried them at longer ranges so I don't know if or how far they might remain stable.
