Walked right under the kitchen window at the cabin about 4:30 yesterday afternoon. After checking us out gawking at him he strolled back thru the yard about 70 yards and decided to scratch an itch. Damn, this guy is a big bear. The feeder on the post is 10" PVC pipe components mounted on an 8X8 post. The top of that post is just between 7 and 8 feet tall. The tree he's using is about 35 feet further back in the lawn from the post and feeder. I see a lot of bear and have a pretty good feel for size and I think this guy is between 400 and 450. After he had left the yard, I had Ma use this picture to let me get a height measurement off the tree and we figured about 10-1/2" standing on his rears.

I applied for a bear permit for this fall but haven't taken time to check the results of the lottery yet. If I have drawn a tag, I hope this dude has hung around until the season starts. I want to take a bear with the Optima pistol and I'm not sure I could miss this thing. lol

That is so freaking cool! We have bears here in Central Florida but not that big. This Black Bear was hanging out by the gas station about a mile away from my house.
