You won't have threads on the new ramrod.

If you have a rod that has a jag on one end that is threaded for the palm saver to screw onto and the other end is just a fitting to load it's the new one.

This makes no sense. Who loads a bullet with just the threaded end of a ramrod? Why cater to those who do and make everybody else have to buy a new ramrod too?

Is CVA really this stupid?

I guess were just morons and their the thinking heads. CVA is stepping in it pretty good. In their article you see where who pays the expense for a real functional ramrod the consumer. I don`t see this one going away any time soon. Real bright of them slapping their customers in the side of the head.

My vision is bad and so is my back. I thought i'd be practical and I ordered a new scoped Wolf. This ramrod deal is really rubbing me the wrong way. It's the idea they they think we're stupid or they really are that stupid themselves.

Wolf is supposed to be a Tues delivery. I have a few days to think about whether I want to send it back or not and go back to a Hawken and deal with my back and vision.

The Wolf is a handy, decently made rifle. I'd keep it but just replace the rod. That Wolf is capable of very good accuracy inside of two hundred yards, is relatively light weight and a dream in the woods. Finding a load should not be an issue. you haven't mentioned what powder you shoot, nor the bullet, but maybe 80 grains by volume to begin and a sabot/bullet around 225 to 250 grains. I think if these components are used you'll find the sweet spot between 90 and 110 grains.

I have a supply of 2F real black I was going to use in an Hawken. I'd use it in the Wolf. I've had a couple of Wolf's in the past. I agree with what you said.

I bought an Accura V2 Lr in 2020 and it has a threaded ramrod and the palm saver with the extended jag. Cva keeps doing things like this and it might be the last one that I buy! Who wants to buy a new muzzleloader and have to buy a new ramrod separately! 🙄

Hey jd24.5.28

.Mine CVA Optima V2 50 cal LR nitride rifle. Came with what yours came with. I cant look too see if mine is threaded. Will i have too buy a new ramrod?

Too bad no corrective measures, just another coverup. CYA at its finest

You got the replacement rod from muzzleloaders.com and not CVA though, correct Ed?

If some of these guys bought elsewhere they may not get that same great support.

I don't know about your Optima. I bought my Accura V2 Lr in 2020 right after Cva came out with the Xs. You'll have to check your ramrod and see.

I borrowed a friend's CVA Optima last year for ML elk season and it shot very well with .50 Harvester "crushrib" sabots (a godsend for easy loading -- I've been shooting sabots for many years) and Harvester 330 gr. hardcast bullets. Could shoot 8 or 9 shots without any cleaning, using 110 gr. vol. of Blackhorn 209 (77 gr. by wt.), and then needed only modest bore-wipe. Believe I posted about that on the forum.

Notably, the brand new palm-saver ramrod suddenly lost its large end at a shot, due to the significant-weight palm-saver snapping off from its slim threaded portion ( most likely 10-32 threads like lots of jags and brushes, , not slimmer8-32 which is also common). I believe the rod moved slightly forward, exposing more of the palm-saver, and the 90 degree muzzleblast against it from that much Blackhorn was too much for an embrittled brass that was not well annealed. I talked to CVA and told them about this problem, and that it was a bit difficult for me to back out the remnant threaded portion from the ramrod, but possible. They immediately sent me the an entire new ramrod at no charge, because they did not have just the separate palm-saver end as a replacement. And yes, the ramrod extension for the ramrod is highly useful.

For those of you who quickly anger and blame such issues on greed or not-caring, I politely suggest you put yourself in the maker's place in today's world of ever-increasing inflation, low profit-margins, supply chain nightmares, large inventories of something that proves to have an apparent flaw (embrittled brass that would likely have been no problem, ever, with an ordinary jag, but when subjected to heavy side pressure at the muzzle with the palm saver ball and today's heavy loads, it sometimes snaps off) and more and more of this turns up from buyers. Sometimes, under such circumstances, it is impossible to inform all the dealers, plus all the public, plus all the writers, and the only option is to discontinue the troublemaking part that seemed so cool and helpful at first, and caused no problem in testing because the test pieces had more resilient brass.

I found the CVA rep very helpful and a good listener when I called, and asked him to pass the information, as to what I believed the problem was, up the line in management. I suggest some of you now call CVA and try, nicely, to get some more information to post here. Let them know about the forum bad-mouthing and how it is bad for business, and who knows what you may learn if you say you will post it.

Aloha, Ka'imiloa
