I just got my new scope put on my omega last weekend and I had the opportunity to try it out. I really liked the Nikon Omega Scope. I was shooting 250 grain Shockwave Sabots backed by two 50 grain pellets of 777. Now I just need to practice, practice, practice. Guys that have an Omega what's your favorite load combination? I will be using my muzzy for deer hunting.

Thanks

110 gr. BH 209 w/250 gr.sst/shockwave
3/4 in. c/c group @100 yds. 8)

1 3/8" @ 100 with 370g maxiball and 80g pyro p.

Called tc this morning for a higher front sight and she suggested i switch to a powerbelt for better accuracy. Plan on trying it as soon as my bullets come in.

Lets see:

90 gr t7 2f under a 250 gr SST and mmp short black sabot, more powder had about the same accuracy (1.25-1.5" from the bench) so I decided to go with lower recoil.

110 gr of t7 2f under a 200 gr SW with blue MMP. Accurate and flat, but costs a little more so I practice mostly with the other.

Most accurate so far- Buffalo Bullet SSB over 80 gr of pyro P, but you really have to know the distance past 100 yards.

The most accurate load in my Omega is 250gr Gold Dot with 110gr Blackhorn 209, the 260 Speer ,the 250 SW and the 200SW will all run a close second.

Mine is 110gr ffg 777 and a 250gr SST , 1" groups at 100 yd. , also 245gr. with 130gr pellets Pyrodex 1" groups .

an old favorite was 120 gr pinnacle fff with 300 gr.PR 44/50, green
sabot
it would print 1 in. right, then the next 2 touching on a
clean barrel for a 1 3/4 in group, but that is as fast as I
could push that pure lead bullet
If I bumped the charge 10% the group opened up to 9 inches

Omega loads

240 and 300 grain Hornady .44 caliber XTP's in standard green Harvester sabots 80 gr 2f Triple 7 for the 240's and 90 gr for the 300's. Velocities for the 240's is mid 1700's and mid 1600's for the 300's ( chrono'd not guessed).Accuracy hovers around the inch to inch and a quarter range for 3 shots at 100 yards, for both loads. Tried some the other day at 200 and the 240's were down 12 inches and the 300's down 13 1/2 inches. Groups at 200 were in the 3 1/2 - 3 3/4 inch range until I got a handle on the breeze and then proceeded to shoot 2 sub inch groups ! 1 with each load.I have gotten significantly better accuracy with the .44/50 loads than I ever got with .45/50's and even more important was the improvement in consistency. With this kind of accuracy, my Omega Z5 has forced my beloved .30-30 Marlin into early retirement . I'll go to 200 yards with this rifle with complete confidence.

Two classic loads for the Omega .50cal are either the 200gr Shockwave or 250gr SST with 100gr to 120gr ffg Triple Se7en. I've never seen an Omega .50 than wouldn't shoot one of those very accurately. Of course you will have to spitpatch between shots.

LATELY Omegas around here have developed a fondness for Blackhorn 209. The below targets were shot with 120gr Blackhorn 209:

WOW!

What load would you use for a omega X7? I thought you owned one awhile back.

Thanks

Dave

I have two older (2002-2003) Omegas that are not particularly tight-bored like I hear the newer Omegas are so bear that in mind...

Omega #1 was bought new in 2003 and has well over 1000 rounds through it.

The best group it has ever shot was with 100 grns. of 777 3F and Barnes 285 grn. Spitfires--3 shots touching, under 3/4" center to center.

The most consistent load is 2 777 50 grn pellets and Hornady .430 300 grn. XTP's in Harvester Green sabots--many groups under an inch and about a dozen dead deer killed from 15 yds to 170 yds. It's a great hunting bullet.

This rifle also shoots Sierra .4515 300 grn bullets in MMP HPH12 sabots with 777 very well, but I hunt with the Hornadies.

Omega #2 I just bought this past winter from a friend who wanted to get a Triumph. The Omega was originally bought in December 2002, but was only fired about 50 times. I have been shooting only Blackhorn 209 in this rifle and so far, after about 180 rounds, it likes:

Hornady 250 grain SST's in MMP HPH12 sabots and 100 to 110 grains of BH209 with a Fed or Win 209.

This load stays within 1" to 1 1/2" consistently.

I wouldn't change a thing except maybe stay around 90-100gr BH209. The X7 is a short muzzleloader and at least for ME...I could shoot it better with slightly lower powder charges..

Thanks! That was what I was thinking in terms of the shorter barrel. Nice to have you confirm this. :D

90 gr BP, ffg, trickled down with a 230 gr Surefire Sabot slammed down with only 35 lb of bullet nose pressure to seat it.
Sub- MOA any day of the week. Favorite combo

90 gr BP, ffg, 150 gr cheap shot in a black sabot, Same seating bullet pressure. Sub-MOA

Went to the range, used Thompson Center 300 grain XTP with black sabots, two 50 grain pellets of 777 and Federal Fusion 209 primers.

Works great!!! Was able to group in 1.5 inchs at 60 yards using stock peep sight. I an not a great shot but, I was never able to get groups like that with the 240 grain SST.

I finally have my hunting load, thanks for the help!

I bought an Omega about a week ago and got out to shoot this past thursday. I started with 90gr T7 ffg and a Hornady 250gr SST with the low drag sabot.

I've found this combo tends to pattern more so than group, I hope I can do better than pie plate accuracy. Next time out I'll try upping the powder charge and see how things go.

Gonna pick up some XTP's and see what happens, maybe loose the low drag sabot too????

That's EXACTLY what I'd do. Try a MMP HPH-24 or Harvester short black in its place.

TURBO
If it seems like its not going to work I suggest you try the MMP-HPH24 and the short black Havestor sabot, Black Horn 209 would also be a good option.
