Scored a pretty nice CVA Hunterbolt on GB a couple days ago. Ive been looking for a .54 cal for awhile, but wasn't looking for a collector piece, I wanted something that could take some abuse deer hunting out of climbing treestands, (that's why I didn't have much interest in the White, deermanok, it was too nice!) I also bought a .54 because I want some serious knockdown power. I've never had a deer go more than 60 yds with my Wolf .50, but I'm planing to hunt some small areas this winter, and want to make sure they don't leave our property. I decided to start with 375 gr. CVA Deerslayer bullets, and from what I've read so far 80-90 gr. 777 should do the trick. Does anyone have any experience with these rifles or bullets, they want to share? Also, the Remington 700 ml I had, had a metal removable weather guard on the end of the bolt which enclosed the nipple area. Did they offer anything like that for the Hunterbolts? ~ Brad

Got to take it out for about 30 min. Shot at 50 yds, started at 80 gr, ended up at 90.last 3 shots were at the blue, top one was last shot after small scope adjustment. Will clean it up good tonight, and try some 3 shot groups this weekend. I will say the deerslayer bullets started tight, seemed a bit loose in the middle, and snug as it seated, and the gun seemed to shoot better dirty. Jury is still out on that.
