I think when they closed them out you could get one for under $200. Maybe close to $150 right before they sold out. The barrel contour looked just like the Elite 45s. Neat little rifle if you dont mind shooting conicals with Triple7 and caps.

Ooofda,
This reminds me that I have the mk 85 in 45 and also a 45 wolverine with the contoured barrel. Neither rifle has been fired and I have the boxes. I know I bought a pair of warne maxima all steel bases for that wolverine. I'm getting old, I might be persuaded to sell the wolverine with those bases.

The wolverine was sold new with the 209 FPJ breech plug and plunger.

The bases are high quality too

Can you believe this guy!!!!!! That rifle really needs to be shot too. 1-30 will shoot at least upto a 420gr conical fine. With the cost of BH209 and less crud ring using percussion....like i said it would be neat little conical shooter. Easier to clean than a DISC type bolt action using percussion too.

I acquired one of those Wolverine 209's in 45cal a 5 of years ago, think I paid less the $ 100 online. the crown was FU. I cut 3 inches off the barrel. I use that piece to pre-rifle full bore slugs. I the changed breech plug to percussion caps, no crud ring. The rifle is so much lighter than any of my other Knights, I use it for my walk around rifle. Its very accurate with cast 45 slugs. I measured the twist rate and mine is 1x30.

Thats what i was getting at. Change to percussion makes it a viable Triple7 option if you flat out hate the crud ring like i do.

One of our members has graced me with an unfired Wolverine just like you describe. Im delighted to do business with him and the check is in the mail to him. I have everything I need to shoot it as a 209 and may just leave it that way. I have plenty of 209s, jackets, holy swiss, and pyrodex. I think they will kill a deer just fine.

Now I need advice on projectiles. Im thinking the no excuses .45 in 385 grains
and PR bullets DCs in 200 and 220 grain

Im also considering a shorter barrel. I love how light my LK_93 is.

A great lighter load is the 180gr or 200gr XTP and about 80gr of powder. Maybe 90gr with Pyro. Its no screamer but its about the same power as a 44mag out of a carbine.
