I bought this rifle to save it. It's a C.C. LTD/ Ron Paull build. Ron Paull built rifles for GRRW at one time and I assume branched off on his own. There is some info on him out there but not a lot. Ok, some observations on the rifle. The barrel is .50 cal at 36" with a taper of 1 1/8 to 1 1/16 with no barrel makers marks visible (I have not disassembled it yet) the lock is also a mystery but is a nice as I've seen, the trigger is smooth as any CF rifle trigger and pulls at 1lb 8 oz +/- 1 oz. The engraving, while not extensive is well done. The stock is extremely nice. If this rifle has been fired, it hasn't been fired many times Here's some pics. I would be interested in any opinions on style.

Sure looks purdy. Nice score. There’s a contemporary Longrifle collecting section on American Longrifle forums. Maybe someone over there would be able to give more info about the origins? Just a thought.

Thanks, I'll check it out. I spoke to another GRRW builder yesterday and sent pics for him to look at. Hopefully he can shed some light and have some contact info for Ron Paull.

Follow up. I finally spoke with Ron Paull and his wife who was also a builder. This rifle was produced by his company C.C. LTD and by his apprentice, a gentleman named Vern Fornes. The VF in a circle builders mark mystery is now solved. The style he attached to this rifle was a Hivernaut, although I can't find any info related to this style. The barrel could be either a Bauska or more likely a Getz and was a custom size. When i bought the rifle, the seller said it was a .50 cal. After doing some measuring it turns out that it is actually a .54. the barrel 1.125 across the flats, 35" long and is pinned screwed at the tang. The lock and side plate are from Siler. The trigger is as good as my modern Timney/Jewels with a VERY consistent 1lb 8oz +/- 1oz pull. He told me who made his triggers but I guess I didn't jot it down but Ron was the one who tunned them. The stock is a very nice curly maple that was very nicely shaped and finished. The furniture is iron and pinned and screwed on with a pewter end cap that was also an option. Other options include a patch box and inlay on the cheek peice. The lock, barrel, iron work, patch box, trigger, trigger guard, had custom engraving by Ron. It's nice to be able to find a history on a rifle.
