This is the first target i ever shot with a muzzle loader where all the bullets hit the same piece of paper, when shot at both 100 and 200 yard. The bottom 3 bullet were shot first from about 200 yard. I forgot to measure the yardage, but other measures from the same area were 201, 202, and 200 yard. The top 2 bullet were then fired from about 100 yard; again i didn't measure, but other days i have measured 98 to 103 yard in the vicinity.

The rifle used was the Triumph with a 4x scope. The powder was about 120g of BH. The primer was the W209. The bullet was the 40 caliber 200g SST, and it was held by the blue crush rib sabot. The rifle was fired on previous day without cleaning, and it seems like these were about the ninth through fourteenth shots on the uncleaned rifle and breech plug. It was 7 degrees when the fun started, and 23 degrees at the end. There was zero breeze. Elevation was near 4700 feet above sea level.

There are 3 empty boxes of these bullet, which indicate about 60 have been fired. These 5 shots are far and away the best of them 60. It could be, i will put in for an antelope tag. For sure i will be hunting prairie deer with this combination. Our muzzle loader season ended less than a month ago, but i am already eagerly awaiting the arrival of our next rifle season, which should be sometime in the first week of October.

very nice shootin ron!!
i'm pretty sure my triumph can shoot like that, but the nut behind the butt is always holding it back....karl

very good shooting Ron. What distance do you have that scoped sighted in for?

Well, seeing as how 100 was 2" high, and 200 was 2" low, I'd say 150 - 160 yard zero.

I tried to have SHOOTER calculate the path of today's shoot, but he didn't see it how it was actually shot. At any rate, he say the zero was 170 yard.

That is as good as he could do, and i guess i believe he is pretty close. I think those 100 yard shots would have been higher from a cold cold barrel.

I included the elevation of where i did the shooting, because i think it affects how bullets fly, compared to how ballistic programs say they should fly.

My rifle shoots different from a hard rest than a soft one. I generally just make sure I have a hand under it so I can duplicate the rest in the field. Actual bullet path vs. a program can be quite a bit different. I don't trust the ballistic coefficients for any bullet, but it is still a useful tool for a starting point. An inch or two in an actual hunting situation, with a deer sized target, is not a problem! Great shooting, by the way!

I THINK Hornady's listed BC is based on 2325fps MV. Since BC is not a constant your results may vary.

Here is a target shot at this morning at 98 yard with the Triumph. It was left overnight in the truck uncleaned. The load was the same same same same. The first shot from a cold cold barrel, is the highest hole. It was -5 when the shooting began. It was -2 when it ended, and there was a light breeze.
