Bullet testing today - inspired by Ronlaughlin’s data. I used a set up similar to Ron’s: carpet faced 3/8 particle board, 8-10 gallon jugs of water and 1/2” particle board backer board - all set at 25 yards from the shooter.

Omega Z5 .50 rifle
TC Shockwaves (bonded blue tip and non-bonded yellow tip) .45 300 gr in MMP HPH12
80 gr Blackhorn 209 by volume
76 degrees and cloudy
Elevation 3000’
No velocities measured.

300 gr Bonded Shockwave
Bullet shredded the first three jugs and was found in the fifth jug. Bullet and jacket remained intact and weighed 283.4 gr.

300 gr non-bonded Shockwave
Bullet shredded the first two jugs and was found in the sixth jug. Bullet and jacket separated and fragmented. 260.6 grains were recovered - core weighed 179.2 grains.

I’ve been using the 300 gr bonded TC Shockwaves for many years now and this is typical of the results I see on game. I like the non-bonded for lighter game like antelope but I’m a big fan of bonded bullets for bigger game.

Just for comparison; the 300g SST captured at 25 yard in a similar set, propelled by 80g Blackhorn.

Folks always write the SST is the same as the shockwave, but are they?

Thank you for the work devil.
