2 hours on stand for our Illinois archery opening weekend,...and I'm on the board. Lots of pre-rut stuff starting already believe it or not....should make for a great firearm season to say the least!

Congrats on the deer....very nice.
Same thing has happened to me for two years in a row now.
It does cut your archery season short when you plan and scout too well, doesn't it? 8)

That is a very impressive deer you have there. Nice going. How far a shot did you have to make?

A rather silly question but... how much body fat is on that deer? I was talking to a person here in Northern Wis and he got a medium doe with his bow, and said he never seen so much body fat on a deer as this doe. That usually indicated a hard winter according to the old timers...

31 yards (always use my rangefinder the first few times out) 3 blade Rage made quick work of him,..Ray Charles coulda found him! Had a TON of fat on his hips, shoulders & back,..over 2" thick in some spots. I agree with the rough winter comming.....I can't believe the size (weight) the deer have already put on & the pre rut activity is EASILY 2 weeks ahead of our normal stuff. Had 2 bucks scent trailing a mature doe about an hour before this guy came thru...got active scrapes all over the place...hope I don't fill my 2nd (and last one) buck tag before M/L season! :D
Guess I got Buffalo County, WI if I do!! :D :D
