So let's say you could either get a Leupold Ultimate Slam 2-7x33 with the SABR reticle for around $235, or a Nikon Omega 3-9x40 w/ Nikoplex reticle for around $140, which one would you buy and why?

I'd buy the Nikon (have two of them) based on price only! I've heard good reviews on both and some like the Leupy reticle better; but I don't believe its $90-100 better!!!

fozzy,

I have two of the 3-9x40 Leupold Ultimate Slam S.A.B.R. reticle. I paid about $220 for the first and about $230 for the second one. With that said, if you are not looking for that reticle, the Nikon Omega Nikoplex at that price can't be beat IMO. Silver scopes do nothing for me, but if you like them you can get some good deals if you look around.

Here are some 2-7x33's for less than you posted.

Black for $214.95.

I bought my first one from a camera shop (BH) in NYC because none of the places like Midsouth had them in stock at the time. I did get good service, and IIRC they shipped 2nd day for no extra charge, but I think it was a promotional deal right before Christmas.

I bought my second one from Midsouth, I see the prices have went up at both places.

Here is a 3-9x40 Nikon Omega BDC for $227.24.

I shoot a Nikon Omega and could not be happier with it. As for the other, I have heard good things about them. BUT I am real happy with the Nikon.

Thanks everybody! After sleeping on it and reading these replies I'll go with the Nikon. I wasn't really interested in a 3-9, but at that price.... I don't see how I could go wrong!

I'm also getting Warne QR (QD?) rings and base for this to go on a T/C Omega. Would medium be a good choice for the Omega/Omega setup? I want as low as possible without interfering with the hammer or breach. I'm flexible about whether the iron sights stay or go.

fozzy:
I have the Nikon Omega on a CVA Kodiak Pro, ended up using Warne QD high and still had to remove the rear sight, getting to the hammer is good though with med I would have had some trouble.

Thanks again everybody for the suggestions! The Omega looks nice and clear! Also got the Warne med QD and one-piece base. Can't wait to put it all together, and maybe report back with an opinion after sighting it in and actually using it

Great choice! Those Warne rings and bases are awesome!
