“A bill that would have opened Idaho’s muzzleloader-only hunting seasons to equipment that increases the range and accuracy of the primitive weapons appears to be dead.

House Bill 469 that would forbid the Idaho Department of Fish and Game from regulating the use of sabots, 209 primers and pelletized powder in muzzleloader seasons was held in the Idaho House Resources Committee on Wednesday.

Members of the committee appeared moved by testimony from hunters who opposed the legislation and feared it would jeopardize muzzleloader seasons, said Brian Brooks, executive director of the Idaho Wildlife Federation.”

it is still a muzzleloader
1 shot load from muzzle = muzzleloader
aint no getting around that

Thanks for posting. The boys and I are looking to make an elk hunting trip out westin 2025. I am just digging in on the states that offer muzzleloader hunts to non residents.

A few years back I think it was a privative weapons hunt and those with tags were hunters/stalkers, not just shooters.
If you want to use 209 primers, sabots etc hunt the general season with your ML.

If you spent two hours stalking an animal to get close for a fatal shot and have someone shoot from 300 yards behind you, how would you feel?

Well said 👏 and that would chap my arse for sure. Think I'd have to walk up and cut the antlers off as a now we're even gesture.

Looks like Idaho muzzy hunters will have a few more options this year. From the 2024 regs:

“Conical metal” or “metal alloy” projectiles and “accuracy tips” and “pressure bases” are now allowed. So, sounds like Powerbelts, Bore Driver FTX and ELDX and (maybe) BOR Locks will be legal.

Same old story different year , I remember being a stik bow hunter in 3 states for 30+yrs and now @75 I still shoot stik bows @ targets. For killing stuff I eat I still shoot compounds (bows with training wheels ) but more often using x bows 90% of the time . And I was the guy who said I'd cut my throat 1st before using either but I'm still here and still killing what I eat ,difference is I never in all those years put down anyone else who used any legal means to kill stuff (not harvest) so what happens when folks ***** about hunting enjoyment ,You get /see less and there's what you accomplish !!!/Ed

In the past it was called a privative season for ML's, now it is referred to as just a ML only season. Lead only was required in a ball or conical. 209 primers and pellets were not allowed. Yet those were still used by some. Those are the people I referred to as SHOOTERS, and not legal hunters. Reference above..........."any legal means to kill stuff". I think you missed my point Ed.

As did you missing the forest while looking at trees , I look at grand kids playing soccer(foot ball)/computer games/and absolutely no interest in hunting /fishing !!! Son in law /daughter are too busy working and I don't live close enough to matter . Most of the youth are being indoctrinated and we are hell bent on trying to make our sport more exclusive (like my bow hunting analogy) . With less licenses being sold with more special seasons it ain't rocket science to see the future ! More folks doing less hunting and more games on the internet (YUP ) no I did not miss your point (you have one too) ,you didn't get mine /Ed

I’d wish I had the gun & skill with it to do the same thing.
