My brother killed a big cow elk last week in Colorado with his Omega and 90gr of BH 209 with a 350 gr Hornady FPB. This is the 5th elk we have killed with this set up. I use 95 gr in my gun. Cow was angling away and down hill at about 60 yards. The bullet entered in the rear of the right rib cage and stopped under the skin near the left elbow. Went about 100 yards. Bullet mushroomed nicely and retained more than 300 gr. This load has been good to us. Tried to add the pics of bullet but says file is too large. Was able to download pics in muzzy section of monstermuleys site

These bullets are accurate then from your omega? Can't seem to get full bore bullets to shoot quite tight from mine

I'm a big fan of the 350gr FPB in my omega, plus they are very accurate .
Congrats on the harvest .

Do you guys still have the QLA in your omegas?

Your best bet with an Omega is a bullet that has a rear "bell" that will expand in the QLA and hopefully not kick the bullet sideways. That is why powerbelts will usually fly pretty well out of an Omega. So your choices to try are FPBs, powerbelts, and Thors. All have a rear bell. Full bore lead conicals will probably never fly well from your Omega due to the QLA.

However, some say you can use a sub base like this: http://mmpsabots.com/store/50-cal-bbsb- ... -sub-base/ under a conical and it will do what the rear bell does on the other bullets. Haven't tried it yet.

Thanks guys! I'd like to try some in an omega brush gun I have, (cut down barrel due to rust from previous owner) so the QLA isn't an issue with this one

Will do! I've never tired the fpb or the thor bullets out of any of my omegas, just Great Plains bullets as well as the federal bor lock bullets

FPBs are the cheapest of those (except for great plains) and would be worth a look in the gun that still has a QLA. You will need a short starter like this:

The rear bell is larger than 0.5 (I think 0.507). So it has to be sized to your barrel. You drop the bullet in the QLA and then set the starter on top of it and give it a "whap" with your palm to start it down the barrel. then finish it with your ramrod. I have one of the T handle Omega ramrods which makes seating the bullet a lot easier too:
