I have a friend that just bought a muzzleloader. He has no idea of the maintainence and cleaning process. Is there a place where I might print out some info he learn from? Thanks, smoker

lyman manual

You could also go to the Lyman web site click on blackpowder and download their manual for any of their rifles and it should give you and your buddy a good start on what to do .

Thanks for the info folk's. I'll copy that info on the realtree site. I saw my friend last night and reminded him about the cleaning peocess and he asked a question I couldn' answer. He asked if balck powder would rust or corrode a stainless steel barrel???? Couldn't answer...wasn't sure. I would imagine it would foul a SS barrel so that accuracy would be affected...don't you? smoker

You better believe it will! One MUST clean up completely after each shooting session regardless of barrel/action finish.

http://www.cahe.nmsu.edu/pubs/_circulars/circ500.pdf is mostly directed at traditional rifles but there would still be gain in reading it. Most of the info might still be useful.

http://www.chuckhawks.com/index2h.muzzleloader.htm lots of articles linked there, some useful - some not.

Some more links that might interest you are posted here: http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/ind ... opic=12556

Cayugad wrote up a nice "quick and to the point" guide for beginning muzzleloader shooters, but I seem to have lost it in the cyberworld. Maybe Dave can post a copy? Should be a sticky somewhere.
