.50, Sporterized Hawken rifle. This is getting to be problem -I see one for 100.00, and it's too good to pass up! Now I gotta hide another rifle from the wife...... Should get it next week.

Mine are almost all scoped, from 2.5 - 4x. Generally 1 1/2" or better 3 shot groups @ 100yds. Darn near one holers at 50. 100gr 777 and 240 - 250 XTP works real good, as does a Great plains 385gr over 80gr. 777.

that is a heck of a find for a rifle in good shape.

I just kinda cruise the auction sites, and try to have a ready stash for a good oppotunity. For some reason, the Cabelas/Investarms rifles don't consistantly command a high price. That's okay with me -I like the darn things, and find them to be just the thing to ruin a Md. whitetails day! This one is right handed, and I'm a lefty, but it doesn't really bother me at all. I do have one just like it in a lefty.

Told the wife the rifle was coming. She took it pretty well. Golly, it's like admitting to an affair or something.....

A bunch of us have the same problem!! I've got one, shoots pretty good out to 65yds with open sights.

I'm up to six. My name is Tom, and I am a muzzleloader addict, and I won't change, 'cause I don't have to.....

Got the rifle today, and though it is worth what I paid, it is not great. Pretty bad pitting about 4" from th muzzle. One patch (there are 3) closest to the bore looks the worst. Somebody let it sit a long time before cleaning it. Think I'll shoot it before making any decisions about what to do. Gonna start with some conicals to smooth it out some. See what happens.

Took the rifle out today. Only shot at 45yds, which is about as far as I can see without a scope. Darn thing shot quite well, in spite of a couple of rough areas in the bore. This session reminded me why I use XTP's, though. Shooting into a clay/sand bank, 100gr of T7 tore apart the Powerbelts, Mushroomed PRB's nicely. The XTP's held together, and were very consistant in their performance. They also shot the best, about 1" for 3 shots, if I swabbed between shots. No swabbing gave me 1 1/2 - 1 3/4". Powerbelts were about 1 3/4" ,as were PRB. Fun rifle, and a good shooter. Apparently, rough spots in the bore are not a big deal, at least with this rifle. Wanted to try some 385gr. Great Plains, but packed the .54 cal., instead of the .50.
