I have been shooting the 240 Gr. XTP's on top of 90 Gg. of BH209 out of my Omega getting some good looking groups. The question that I have is would this combo be efective on deer out to 150 yards? Or should I switch to a heavier or aero tipped bullet with a higher powder load? I have been searching the forum, but not finding what I need.
Thanks, Eric

Sure it will be effective at 150 yards, if you put it in the right place! If you sight it in about 2" high at 100 yards, you should have a point blank range of 150 yards or perhaps a bit more.

I agree with willhobbybobby. Without running any ballistics programs, I would guess your POI at 150 yards, sighted 2" high at 100, would be 3-4" low. But as you already know, it's best to actually shoot those distances to determine POI, but the bullet IMO, would still have the umph to take on a whitetail.

Eric,
Got this off the Hornady site. I am assuming you are talking about the .452" 240 gr. xtp rather than the .430" 240 gr. xtp? You can go to the Hornady site and punch in the info for comparisons. The B.C. for the 300 SST is .250 (not listed on site) This below I punched in a 150 yd. zero. 3 to 3.4" high at 100 for 150yd. zero with examples below. They lose steam quick..

If you sight in for 135 yds you will be a little over 2 inches high at 100 and less than 2 inches low at 150. Lee

Thanks for the info guys. I was hoping that it would have enough energy @ 150 yards to do its job. The help with POI distances will be more than enough to get me started. Off to the range to test it all out. :D Thanks again. Eric

FYI- my hunting buddy took a doe cleanly at 150 yards with the 240 grain XTP and 80 grains of 777. I think as long as you put the bullet in the right place, it'll drop them at that range no problem.

The "right place" is all important! Took a bunch with broadheads over the years :)
