I just acquired some 54 cal Sabot 44-265gr JFP/XTP bullets from a friend for a 54 cal TC Renegade with a 1-48" Twist bbl. Any ideas on what load to start off with? I have Swiss 2 and 3F as well as 777-3F.

Thanks

All i can say is my .54 Renegade seems to like the H5445R sabot with 250 & 275 gr using 80 gr T7-2F. 250 gr are Fury bullets, i think the 275 gr are Barnes XPB bullets

I too think about an 80 grain start up charge in the .54.

Thanks, I'll start with the 80gr load and go up and down to see what it likes best. Hopefully, the recoil isn't too bad. :) I have some patches coming soon and will try them with the Hornady .530 round balls. Hopefully, someday I'll find an RCBS .530 round ball mold.

You may find that .44 bullet too long to stabilize in a 1-48 twist.
A 1-40 is needed for a 240 grain .44 ( .430) according to Greenhill's formula.
It will stabilize a 250 grain .452 QUITE nicely though.
But perhaps your .54 never read Greenhill...

I found the recoil ok, not too much. Through the years i have slowly lower the powder charges. I use to use the Max allowed when i was younger. I learned as the years went by i was just beating my shoulder up for no good reason.
