How do you like to have your ramrods? I have been partial to a maple dowel with brass thimbles pinned to each end, the overall length being just a bit longer than muzzle length for easier removal. Lately, I have been making them just flush with the muzzle and permanently fixing a jag to the top end. That way I have both a jag and thread available. Seen some done with just a plain wood end on one end.

I do not use my ramrod under the barrel, I have a hickory range rod that has served me well for several years now. I found it at a local shop, made just for .54 cal with a round ball jag on the end.

When I hunt, I use the gun's ramrod. Hickory, with one end with a fitting. I like them long, for easy grip. At the range, I use a delrin rod. It makes the wood rod last longer.
