In Pa in the flintlock season after Christmas fiber optic and peep sight are allowed

In South Dakota it is iron sights only during muzzle loader season. I used a scope during the center fire rifle season this year, and it was fun to be able to see the sights for a change.

In Washington State we are NOT ALLOWED scopes but we can use Fiber Optic as long as they are not battery powered what ever that means.

So far, it looks like there are no restrictions on fiber optic sights.

I wonder what the thought process is, that woudl disallow scopes? If they will allow modern muzzleloaders, they might as well allow scopes. If they don't want to allow modern sighting systems (scopes), they might as well not allow modern muzzleloaders. Louisiana has implemented a Primitive Weapons season, that even allows antique metallic cartridge rifles.

:D :) 8)

SCOPES allowed in IL. THANK GOD :!: :!: :!: :!: Old eyes won't allow me to see the iron sights and the target at the same time any more :!: :!:

The AARP should slap those non scope states with a lawsuit. It is nothing less than discriminatory against the older hunters that have vision issues.

you must remember that when ML seasons were first lobbied for back in the '60's and '70's, the arguments for allowing ML's a seperate season was the limitations such as open sights, limited participation, effective round ball range. this it was argued would limit the success rate on game. therefore the impact on game populations would be nill allowing the herds to keep recovering from their historic lows of the 1920's. in many states like in the midwest deer have recovered so completely by the '80's and '90's population control replaced recovery efforts of many game departments. out west where elk and mule deer are the big game of choice the effects of hunting are different than from whitetails. elk and mule deer numbers are more easily impacted and slower to recover whether from hunting, harsh winters, and now even wolves. in the western states they have the problem of not enough game to go around for all who want to participate. that's why there are drawings for tags. therefore they will limit the methods such as scopes, closed breech, center fire primed, pellet propellants, etc.

Wisconsin allows only non magnification scopes during the muzzle loader season. So I use a 1X scope on a lot of them.

Cayagad, That will probably change this year, full inclusion is a possibility

Missouri has almost no restrictions except special lottery type hunts. Different places will have different regs then but the regular ML season is pretty much what ever you want.

Minimum 40cal is about it.

scopes

New Mexico will allow scopes during some seasons, we have some seasons that you cant use a scope or saboted bullets. syn powder ok. fiber optic sights ok in all of the seasons. this is what the hunting proclamation says.

Restricted Muzzleloader Firearm: Any muzzle loading rifle (including a smoothbore flintlock or musket) using open sights in which the charge and projectile are loaded through the muzzle. Only black powder, Pyrodex, or an equivalent substitute may be used. Use of in-line ignition, pelleted powder, sabots, belted bullets, multiple projectiles and scopes are illegal.

great idea!

when the list is complete, move it over to the 'smokeless' forum and then a smokeless Y/N column can be added......total comprehensive info all in one spot.....
