Stock profile alterations.

Thought I'd share the stock profiling changes on my current project. I wanted the stock to look a little more like a Berks County rifle. Any thoughts or suggestions would be most appreciated.
First picture shows the removal of the stock star inlay and the lines to remove and reshape the cheek and bottom edge of the buttstock

Still have a long way to go but I thought after reading Jon's thread on redoing Ricks rifle, the stock profile changes might be interesting.

Re: Stock profile alterations.

Looks to me that you are doing a very professional job. You are going to be very happy with the modification.

Re: Stock profile alterations.

A good project and you are sure improving the cheek. Looking at other Berks rifles you may want to make the lower edge a bit higher. The line should be parallel to the center of the wrist.

Re: Stock profile alterations.

Looks like I might have to change the angle just a little to line up with the centerline of the wrist. The line shows a line from the center of the rear of the lockbolt panel, through the center of the heart wrist inlay and down to the rear of the cheek panel. Thanks for the suggestion.

Looking good!

My JP McCoy lacks a toe plate and I've always like the shape of the one you selected.

Not sure my skills are on par with yours though...........

well, after a long layoff it became clear that I would not be able to do any wire inlay work anymore. Hands have become too unsteady for the fine detail work. I just slapped this rifle together so I could at least shoot it. Nothing to write home about but it is at the very least, a decent shooter. Sorry for the long layoff between posts. 20200114_090948.jpg20200114_091023.jpg

Looks good, nice work. Honestly sometimes the wire just makes a gun look to flashy for a shooter.

Just slapped it together, huh? You are much too modest! If I could build something like that I would be shouting it out to the world! That is just lovely! :thumbs up:

Dave looks very nice, are you retired now? Been a while since we talked when I was selling some of my wares on CLA's website. :thumbs up:

Been retired for a while now. Thanks for asking. Now that Christmas is over, it's time to start working on the winter projects and making plans for this years events. Seems they are getting fewer and farther away. I've actually got four guns to refinish but who knows when I'll get to them all.
