My .54 octagon barrel Big Bore Mountain Rifle is in BAD need of rebrowning. I guess I need some advice on what type or brand of brown to use; do I need to remove all of the existing brown and other helpful hints. Thanks a bunch!

BC rust and blue remover, steel wool, Plumb Brown. Simple and worked for me.

Laurel Mountain is what I use now tried several different brands and none compare to Laurel Mountain .

Thank you all so much. I have pretty much removed the old brown with Vapo-
Rust and 320 emery paper. I've ordered plumb brown through Amazon.

I browned my tc barrel in 1984, at that time in the gun shop for browning was a chemical bicloride of mercury. Heat the barrel rub on with cotton ball. Best browning I have ever seen yet. 35 years of snow and rain and looks the same as the day it was finished. Too bad off market now only available from chemical companies as best I can tell. Gonna try laurel mountain and see how it compares.
