hand gun for bear baiting

For you guys that carry during baiting, what do you think if a 45 ACP?
Enough stopping power for black bear.

bears are hard to stop when wounded and can get downright dangerous .i carry pepper-spray [bear-repelent] and would not use a pistol on a bear even if i was allowed ..

How about a slug gun? Get a good door breacher smoothie you can put on your shpoulder. I am jts not a person sold on pistols for that type of defence. I think a slug gun would anchor them and I beleive I can shoot tat slug gun better than a pistol>

A buddy of mine killed a black bear with a .40 cal pistol couple years ago. It was in his back yard and he thought it was acting in a threatning manner. Personally i would opt for a .45 over a can of spray any day

I dont bear hunt but I would much prefer something in the .44 range or .45LC. Shotgun is a much better bet if you dont mind a long gun.
