Karl,

I have taken game with the 200 gr Shockwave in a 50 cal, but have not had my Knight .45's for a deer season yet. I have shot several 200 gr SST's through both my .45 cal Elite 1:30 and my .45 cal DISC 1:20. They both shoot that bullet pretty good, but I think the 195 gr Barnes ExpanderMZ is a much better bullet, not only in accuracy, but perceived performance on game as well.

One thing to keep in mind, these 1:20 barrels are spinning the bullets 1/3rd faster than the 1:30. The centrifugal force HAS to play a part in bullet expansion, at least in my mind. The bullets are reaching much greater speeds out of the .45 cal barrels, the 1:20 even more so using 120 gr charges of BH209 in my experience. IMO, the all copper or brass bullets seem to stabilize better in this twist with the MAGNUM 120 gr level charges. The all lead need to be slowed down considerably, and the jury is still out on the 200 gr SST.

Here are some target pictures of some of my groups from the 200 gr SST, 195 gr Barnes, 200 gr Lehighs, and others. All of these were shot from my Knight DISC .45 cal 1:20 twist.

50 yards, OPEN SIGHTS. The Barnes should say 195 gr, not 190.

Some of the .400" diameter bullets. From L to R: 155 gr XTP/MAG, 180 gr XTP/MAG, 195 gr Barnes ExpanderMZ, 200 gr Hornady SST, 200 gr .358" Hornady FTX, 350 gr White Power Star.

If I hunt with it this fall, I plan on taking a deer with the .358" 200 gr FTX first, then a toss-up between the 195 gr Barnes and the 200 gr Lehigh, then maybe the 200 gr SST.

One thing I might mention Knight discontinued the 45 cal with a 1/20 twist and moved to the 1/30 because the twist and short bullets did mix well. The 1/30 offered much better stabilization of the .40 or .357 short bullets.

One way to overide the lack of stablization is to shoot very potent loads to create enough velocity or shoot longer bullets. With the appearance of the Lehigh 200 or even the Barnes 195 - the 1/20 becomes a viable twist rate again.

In this picture you can see the length of the SST/SW compares very well with the 200 grain Lehigh. And in that case it will probably shoot very well from your Super Disc especially if you choose to shoot a very hot load. Of course this speculation on my part as the fastest twist gun I own is a 1/24 White.

It worked real well for me last season. Four whitetail deer using a .45 cal Knight Wolverine 209 rifle w/ 1/30 twist 26" barrel. The load was 110 gr BH209, 200 gr SST, Harvester light blue sabot, Win 209 in a FPJ. I will be using the same bullet this year in a .45 cal Knight Elite.

this m/l did produce a 1" 3 shot group at 55yds with 100g BH209 and open sights so i'm happy so far, thanks to all for their input....karl
