Here's a nice original powder measurer - dated 1730 -1740's.

Bottom measurer is modern made but very close to the old original one.

What are the symbols on the stick?
 
Very neat to see. Marty, I also thought they were some kind of symbols, but now see that they have 1-2-3-4 written through the lines. The top one is shown going right to left and the bottom one left to right.

That was the way the English marked their measurements back then as did a few other European countries. We (the Americans) made these marking simpler by not using the standard number system (European standards) with the "hash mark" as referred to.

Who made the replica, if I may be so bold as to ask?

When I still had a lathe I made close to 100 of these measurers, then someone back East copied them, they had a duplicating lathe. Haven't seen them advertised for a few years now.
