I recently acquired a BP muzzy, percussion SxS shotgun. It was presented as a "unknown, no proofs/no writing" item, possibly civil war era, SxS coach gun.

After removing some of the crud from strategic places I though might bare fruit of the maker... "E. Allen & Co. Makers", fou d it in small print under engraving on side of lock. (See pictures)

Here is what I found and the specs....

SxS 20" fine stub twist, straight bore barrels with a broken off, Single central tang hook lug. (newish nipples)

Working Percussion, forward box locks

2 triggers model, front and back.

Slight engraving on all all exterior parts. Not real fancy stuff.

Stock wood has been mended and sanded a good bit. Areas of damage possibly from rollover of horse, wagon or, if used as a club, someone's head...

back trigger may be a repair or rough replacement. Appears rough cut and not as refined as front trigger.

Metal butt plate.

**ALL METAL PARTS & WOOD STOCK ARE STAMPED WITH THE SAME # 2091

Ramrod may or may not be original, looks to not be.

Conclusion, I can not find any references or pictures online to this specific make or model 2091 # from E. ALLEN & CO.
For a muzzy, SxS percussion coach gun with 20 inch, smoothebore barrels. All other similar models I can find from maker state 28" barrels and different model #.

Is this a fake? Is this something unknown and new to attribute to "E. ALLEN & CO." Brand name (from only 1865-1871 during period from when Ethan Allen left previous partner's trade name and went in with his 2 son-in-laws until his death in 1871) or... has the obvious answers just slipped by only me?

P.S.- I apologize for no pictures of it being all put together but I just received it and disassembled to inspect and to look for clues as to maker.20220121_111933.jpg20220122_123150.jpg20220122_124459.jpg20220122_121755.jpg20220122_122238.jpg20220122_123905.jpg
