nope, doncha do it der RC. Some issues have cropped up in spite of this being the actual Final of sp3.

I just bought an upgrade version of XP HE. Neither PC with XP has had a disc with it and with Windows no longer making XP after June 30 '08 I figured I'd better get a copy before I haveta buy the craptastic Vista. Needed a backup copy anyway.

Gonna stay away from SP3 until it has the UC seal of approval.

It's got my seal of approval... with conditions.

1. Your system must be totally cleaned of spyware and virus files and your registry must be in good shape.

2. Hard drive should be defragged before installing. Use something like CCleaner to eliminate temp files, then defrag.

3. After getting the download, disconnect from the internet then turn off your antivirus and antispyware programs - as well as any other background programs that do not need to be running. Then install.

The SP3 download

http://phb.btfh.net/temp2/WindowsXP-KB9 ... 86-ENU.exe from http://phb.btfh.net/temp2/ it's good and the server is FAST.

or, from an MS website:

Be sure to check the downloaded file's hash. You can use a program such as Express Checksum Calculator. Download that one from http://www.irnis.net/soft/xcsc/

MD5 Hash is: bb25707c919dd835a9d9706b5725af58

The issues I encountered on my pc were probably due to the fact that I was running a VERY old install of SP2 and, even though it was well maintained, probably had a few registry quirks. Two clean installs since have gone very well - no issues at all.

Now that they re-released it I got brave enough to try it.

Big Mistake. It messed up my sound card drivers and even a clean install would not fix it so I had to go back to a previous restore point. I made sure to turn that on and make one before installing it.

If You have a MSI motherboard with on board audio you might want to pass. I downloaded the SP3 blocker tool from MS to block it for now. It only messed up the mic, regular speaker sound was unaffected.

UC... XP SP3 is just an attempt from MS to F-up your computer just as bad as VISTA!

... or maybe they are trying to make VISTA more appealing?
