Hello all,

I recently purchased a Military Heritage Brown Bess replica. I also have the antique Tower original India Pattern form the 1800's. The barrel on the original is more of an in the white plain, un-shined, metal scenario, whereas the replica is very shiny non-blued metal. I want to dull the barrel and lock components. In the past, I have removed bluing with vinegar and I wonder if anyone here has done the same to shiny gun steel without the bluing already applied? I just want to dull the metal a little bit, not turn it black... Thanks!

Maybe Naval Jelly ??I used it on some old savages that had been in a fire (not hot enough to weaken springs) and a dull metal/gray finish was the result.....Mossie

I will do a bit more research and let you know what I turn up.

This is what I’ve used with good results.
You mileage may vary.
