Can I use Remington 69 primers in a CVA Kodiak Pro?

A buddy of mine gave me four boxes of Remington #69 primers (about 400 of these puppies) and assured me that they would work fine in my muzzleloader instead of 209s. Is anyone using these? Are they safe? How would they compare with the 209s? :?:

I believe they were originally made for the 410 shotshells and were shorter than a regular 209. If you have a caliper measure the dia and length of them and compare those numbers to the dia and length of a new 209 to see how they match up.
