I have a few more common offerings and the old Buffalo Bullet 375gr lead BTHP for 50cals but somehow i left out that one in the pics.

BTW i know it sounds odd but i used a .31cal felt BP revolver wad to adjust 357/45 bullet/sabot seating depth and it helped a lot with how the bullet base fit the long PR Orange sabot. I still dont know how well it will work but ive tried it before in 45/50s when i ran out of MMP short sabots and 200gr 45cal FTX bullets.

:D

how do you think that 140 barnes is going to do? Why not stick with the 175 or 195 expander?

I doubt it will have any real purpose other than having fun with some T7 loose. :D

BTW the 40cal is a 155gr TAC-XP. The 140gr is a Barnes 357 140gr XPB. Edited to fix my error.

I was just curious. I was also looking at the harvester funnel points as an option. I will wait for some of your results, Thanks for all the pictures of the assortment.

BTW from what i can tell Harvester Funnel points are Rainier hps. They call them HEX points. Ive compared them side by side and cant tell a difference. I would buy them loose and get the 40/45 MMP tan if you are using a 45.

In a 40/50 you might need to experiment a bit more.

What are you using for the range boxes?

They are a bit tall so you need some needle nose to take them out but they are Cabelas 45ACP boxes. Roughly $2.99 each for upto 45cal.

The ones for my 50s are made by J&J for 50A&E bullets. Usually a dollar or 2 more at my LGS. About $5 each.

Edit Berry's 50A&E boxes are under $3 at my LGS and fit 54 cals in sabots fine too.

I'm jealous just looking at your collection!!! By the way, how do the .355/9mm bullets shoot for you? Do you think they have any practical applications, or mostly just for fun?

The only .357 bullets I've shot out of my .45 have been the PR Dead Centers, which shot very well, but I never had a chance to try them out on deer. I've always considered getting some .357 mag pistol bullets and trying them out, but always worried if they would shoot well or not.

357/45 is basically just for fun and the only one with any potential sofar is a light load and the 9mm 147gr BTHP in the MMP sabot. And only as a very light option for recoil sensitive shooters.

Del recommended this as a very light load and 60-70gr by volume of powder in his blue 357/45 sabot.

All the other 357s are just experiments or for fun. A good .357 158gr hp MIGHT be ok with care. I did it mainly because i bought a bunch of the Orange PR sabots before i was aware of the limitations. I also have a fair amount of 9mm-357 bullets for smokeless reloading.

40/45 is probably going to be far better even with similar bullet weights.

I posted pics mainly so folks can get an idea of what a few uncommon options look like. Some may find them fun to experiment with too.

Thanks again- I found it very informative. I always thought that a well-constructed .357 158 or 180 grain bullet with a light to moderate charge would be just fine for deer. It should give about the same velocity as a .357 mag bullet out of a rifle. But you're right, a .40 cal bullet is probably going to be better for most purposes.

Bullets

Hey, Great Pictures, would have like to see a 460 gr No Excuse Conical at the end of the line  .

A few more and a .429 SST type hardcast

This is a test version of a SST in very hard lead. Currently its a .429 (in stock) and 200gr. This is actually a "2nds" quality. The left bullet is a Miester .406 260gr (40-60) and is getting resized to .400-.401. Bullet on the right is a 45cal Improved Minie. I got 500 of the .406 260gr for a steal and Duke is resizing them for free.

A version in .452 250gr or more with a smoother shoulder is coming. The mold was pretty expensive and production might be a bit slow at first. The lube grooves will be a bit finer too and unlubed for sabot shooters on the .452 version.

.401 220gr, .406 260gr w/sabots and hardcast .429 SST type range/practice bullets together. I will give them a try when i remove the lube from the pointed hardcast...its kinda sticky.

Here are a few .458 500gr+ monsters for 45-110 or similar old 45s and 2 conicals/Maxis i got today also.

More higher res pics here.

I will add the rest of the smokeless options and cast/hardcasts in various calibers tomorrow on photobucket but will just post the link. About the only other ones i have that might be good for sabots is a .401 175gr hardcast.

Finally got some limited range time!!!

This is the .406 260gr for the old 40-60 cartidge. I was concerned at first about being too tight but they were fine in the Accura. Only slightly harder than my 200gr SST and only shoots 1" lower.

Harvester Smooth 100gr BH209 CCI209M and now im sold on the mags. .645" center to center
406260grCR100grBH209.jpg

Not sure what bullet is the lower hole. We had a large group blasting.

The PR 250gr QT 40/45 cuts nice holes. Same distance and powder ect. Lower 3 were .401 220gr Redline hardcast with a hang fire from one STS and i switched to the CCI209M.
PR40x45250grQT2.jpg

We had about 7 guys blasting with lots of tactical firearms in front of the targets shooting water jugs and throwing mud up on the targets. Plus shooting mine :D

Most of my targets were wasted but i had to save the 260gr .406 RNFP in a sabot

Couple other pics here and some cylinders i shot across the lake.

Sorry for the heavy pic but that 260 amazed me and i got them super cheap. The Harvseter Smooth sabots looked perfect too. Im waiting for the .406s to be resized before i try the Hornady/MMP tan sabot. They worked fine with the 220gr .401 hardcast.

What, no Noslers!

We had 7 guys blasting, i was lucky to get these pics before they shot them all to hell or covered them in mud. They burned about $500 in ammo.

My buddy couldnt even keep groups close to these with his custom ported 45-70 AND my Led Sled. :p

At .231 sectional density and about 15 hardness these 260s might even be ok for some hunting. :D

I wasnt sure if they would stabilize but they appear to be fine and dropped sabots fast. I was so happy i didnt shoot much else in the 45 today. The GMB54 is no longer a virgin though and recoil is much lighter than i expected even with the 50cal 385gr bullet.
