First shot, clean bore, next 2 are on fouled. Afterward I did a little bit up and a bit to the right.

80gr Pyrodex P, .020" patch, .530" round ball.

100 yards

Really nice shooting at 100 yards with iron sights :ttups:

Nice shooting, I can't see that good at 100yds to group like that

I put a new .54 barrel from Deer Creek on my CVA Hawken and sometimes I can't keep it on the paper at 50yd. Needless to say, it is NOT gonna be my hunting rifle this year.

I see Jonathan that you shot those fine groups in August, how would they fare in colder temps?
Up here in Canada 🇨🇦 I’m shooting my bp guns in minus -10 to -20 degrees Celsius (-14 and -4 Fahrenheit) during the Alberta prairie winter which is mighty cold on the knuckles lol. I have to thin my lube with a titch more crisco. Making that one shot count makes all the fun of shooting these fine arms pay off.
Great shooting :thumbs up:

So Jon is that sufficient for deer hunting load? 80 gr.?
You bet! Its sufficient for elk out to 140 yards. This rifle should shoot a lot better now that I added better sights to it. I was scrambling to find something last year as the factory sight look a crap lol.

Jon,what sights did you finally install, source and how are they attached?
Thanks,
MikeW
