Got word from my buddy that the Whittington Center near Raton NM has given the thumbs up on our first Winter rendezvous! The rendezvous site will be held near the Archery range and is a pretty looking area.
Update... fire ban lifted!! Jan 27 2021
As of right now, stoves with a spark 5arrestor are allowed. Open fires are NOT allowed due to fire restriction. I'll be bringing a large propane tank with my mr buddy heater for my tent.

Firewood will be on site. Water will have to be hauled a little ways off.

I would setup camp at the edge of the woods Jon. Which way is the slope facing on the second picture looking to the right down hill? Set behind those few trees with the back of your camp to the forest (good wind break) get the morning sun and easy to patrol at night.

Rendezvous site. Next week a group of us will be getting together and setting up the shooting ranges and the trail walk. Knife and Hawk range is also going to be rebuilt.

We set up a trail walk fri and sat. Its gonna be one hell of a challenge! Rough terrain, uphill targets , targets that must be hit shooting through brush.

We set up a couple long range metal targets for typical shooting fun. Knife and hawk range and trail walk is in. It was a ton of work but well worth it.

Sure wish I could still do that as I once lived in that area and I'm still very fond of it. Unfortunately at 75 yrs. old, I don't think my old body is up to it. I was still in my 20's when I lived there and I shot many deer and antelope around there....as well as caught lots of fish over at the Miami lake. I worked for the New Mexico Boy's school and spent a few very cold winters at Eagle Nest....but just can't do it anymore. I hope you guys have a ball there !!

Looks like it would be a lot of fun but it can’t happen this year for me. Would make for a nice winter vacation to get down to somewhere warm and have a good shoot. Hope it works out well for you and that there are more events in the future.
