    BH209 temp sensitive?

We set up my buddy's dad's CVA accura V1 with BH209, drilled the flash hole to .035 per frontier gander's recommendation, and used the .50 300gr FTX sabotless. Only primers we could get around here were regular CCI, not magnums. When sighting in, the gun shot perfectly and went boom every...

    Hunting with BH209

Is it critical to shoot the load at the end of the day? Or can you leave it un-shot for as long as it takes?

    Accura serial #?

Anyone know where CVA puts the serial # on the accura? Under the forearm or something? Also, even though they swore up and down the one piece dead on mount/rings would fit the accura V1, it will not. Well, it fits the barrel contour nicely, but will only mount with one hole :(

    Anyone using 250gr gold dots?

Wondering how they perform up close and personal or long range on whitetails at around 1900 fps muzzle velocity?

    BH209 volume vs grains

Big6x6 posted this in the sticky- "Blackhorn 209 VOLUME to WEIGHT calculator: VOLUME in GRAINS BH209 / 1.5 = WEIGHT in GRAINS BH209 OR... VOLUME in GRAINS BH209 X 0.667 = WEIGHT in GRAINS BH209" To make sure I understand the math, if one is using a BH209 recommended load that says 100...

    .40s in a .50 barrel

My SMI barrel for my H&R should be here any day. I'm getting ready to order a bunch of stuff to try, and one thing I hoped I could make work was shooting 200 grain .40 bullets in the SMI's .50 barrel. Looking at the Favorite SMI load sticky, it seems many have been able to make this work. Is...

    1:36 twist SMI .50

Getting ready to order a smokeless barrel for my H&R from SMI. Spent about a half hour on the phone this morning with Dan. Based on my planned loads of 200-300 grain saboted .45 bullets at 2000-2800 fps, Dan strongly recommends their standard 1:36 twist, saying he routinely gets clover leafs...

BH 209 vs VV110 with 250 grain sst

I'm looking forward to next year and thinking about jumping on the ML bandwagon. Trying to decide if I should get a remmy 700 ml ($150-250ish)/ remmy genesis (Less than $200)/ TC triumph ($350-ish) which are relatively cheap now and use BH 209 or just get a 10 ml. Smokeless is legal in my...

    Slugging your barrel

Busta's quote got me thinking. For his info to be usefull one needs to know the ID of the land and grooves of their barrel. I know this involves sending a big chunk of lead down your barrel, but was wondering if someone that's done it could go through the process, start to finish. Thanks :)

Possible source for NEF sidekick/huntsman 209 breech plugs?

The Names at SMI do smokeless conversions for NEF and H&R guns. I wonder if their smokeless breech plugs would be compatible with the sidekick/huntsman, and work with BH 209?

    H&R Sidekick and BH209

This rifle has been discontinued, but there are still some out there to be had, pretty cheaply. The rifle seems to be well thought of, and usually get's good reviews. What kind of velocities and grouping would you expect from it with BH 209 and 250-300 grain bullets (assuming due diligence was...

Anyone shot the new Hornady FBP in their smokeless?

Looked back a few pages and didn't see any discussions. My brother get's a monthly gun test mag, and he said they did a review of the new hornady .50 cal in a laminated 10ml, with sub moa results. I've yet to read the article, but plan too soon. Has anyone tried this new bullet in their .50...

sized 45 bullets for sabotless shooting

My brother is contemplating an SMI smokeless conversion, and is considering the pro's and con's of .50 or .45 caliber. What do you consider the be the pro's and con's of each? Will SMI provide faster twist rates or do they stick with the 1:36 advertised on their website? 1:36 seems kind of...

    Sabot-less in the .50 cal Savage 10ML?

Are there any off the shelf bullets that can be shot without a sabot from the .50 cal savage like RB is doing with the .45 rebarrel? Anyone know what the lands and grooves measure on the .50 savage?

    What makes a gun "smokeless"

Wondering something again and new you were the guys to ask. I know the answer for some in-line designs, but if break open ML is built on a hardened receiver (same as their centerfires) and the barrel is chromoly or stainless and the breech plug contains the pressure (like the replacement .25...

    Need input from sabot experts

I had an experience yesterday, and while not pertaining to SML, I'm sure you guys have the answer. I bought some 12g federal barnes expanders (325 grain MZ) 3/4oz that had shot so well in the past from my H&R slug gun. Federal advertises this load at 1900 fps, but I chronied them in the past...

    Why sabots?

I know the Savage and others are built as .50 so one can use sabots to shoot smaller bullets, but why are sabots a necessity? Why not go with .45 and shoot .45 bullets without sabots, like Bad Bull does. They claim greater accuracy over saboted bullets. I had emailed SMI asking some H&R...

    "The Bullet"

I think I saw this bullet mentioned in another post here somewhere. Anyone tried this bullet? http://www.jadaenterprise.com/ Interesting concept. They say it expands better than a normal bullet. How? Wonder what the BC is, and if it's actually higher enough to offset long range trajectory...

    Please humor me

:) This post is semi- smokeless related. I'm asking here because I'm confident you guys will know if anyone does :) I don't shoot a smokeless or any ML, yet :) . I came here to learn about bullets, ballistics, etc. Mission accomplished :) Was so impressed that when my brother in law went...
