Amerika?

What in the hell did I fight for? There's more freedom in Russia now a days!

In all fairness to the officer, there are a lot of laws on the books that regulate where you can protest without a permit, or place signs. So I ask you... did the protester have a permit or was one needed? Who knows. It appears there were local ordinance regulating the kind of signs and where they could be placed. The officer was poor at explaining this, but it appeared there were laws. Was this protester in violation? Again, who knows. I'd have to read the laws. The officer felt so.

So was the officer wrong for enforcing the laws and following the instructions of his superiors? Of course not. We can not pick and choose what laws to enforced as a police officer. An officer can choose how stern his enforcement actions will be. I will note, the officer used his discretion and did not arrest someone who definitely had crossed the line. Anytime someone dominates your attentions when you are trying to do a job... well the officer took a lot of abuse.

As for this showing the end of America... I don't see it this way. I saw a person breaking the law and trying to make an issue out of it for the benefit of his video, with a officer that did not speak well of what he was trying to explain.

There just was not enough information in the video to start making a lot of objections to what the officer was doing.

Ive read more info on this a while back.

Many people had signs FOR OBAMACARE, those people were not bothered by this police officer. He selected who to harass. In this case it was harassment if you do some follow up on the story.

His sign was against ObamaCare and had the "Joker" picture many of us have seen. He was being selective on how he chose to enforce the law or his view of the law.

I work with local law enforcement daily and ive show many this video. They were all shocked, even black officers. The officer violated this protester's civil right to free speech and proved it by his final comment.

No one forced him to say. "This aint America No more"

Respectfully

Protest

GM54-120 his response si what I have gathered by various articles. I knoew it must be gard to straddle a middle line on iussues that are emotional, but this officer did wrong!

  :x

Being retired from working the streets for some 24 yrs I have to agree with some of you. The officer was wrong :!: HE SHOULD HAVE ARRESTED THE JERK AFTER HE TOLD HIM THE FIRST TIME NOT TO PUT THE POSTER UP AGAIN. The protester would be the first person bitchin and moaning if he thought the officer wasn't doing his job. By the way, I would say that 50% of all protesters that are carrying signs, yelling or chanting , when asked, what are you protesting? They haven't a clue. Most of them say its just something to do.
Sorry if you don't like my reply but I fought in a war and paid my does working the streets dealing with situations most of you couldn't even fathom :!: :!: If he would have done his job, we wouldn't be screwing around now..............

I was a police officer. Retired from it actually. I enforced a lot of strange laws. There are State, County, and City ordinance violations that cover placement of signs and such. Again, I watched the video close. There was not enough information in that video to say who was right or wrong. So I also did some checking.

It seems it was a political rally for an attempt to gain support for President Obama's Health plan that was recently passed. Research said, "Rep. Jim Moran's (D-VA) Town Hall meeting on Obama Deathcare ." Is where this took place. :?: Does the writer of the article I read sound biased? Still, if this protester was not in violation of any laws he should have been allowed to stand there, hold up his sign and protest. Had I or for that matter most police officers been at that scene, and watched that security guard violate this man's constitutional rights, it would have been a whole different ball game. I will also add though, if that protester was in violation of a law, and gave me that kind of grief... I would not have been so kind.

Next, this "Officer Cheeks" is NOT a police officer but a school security guard. Nothing against security guards mind you, but they are a whole different breed from a police officer. I worked with a lot of them that did guard duty, gate duty, even patrol in industrial parks. Some of the things I watched them do would shock you. Even arrested a few of them. So does it shock me that a security guard would make such a statement... not at all.

I will state in my checking this story it seemed a great deal of the articles appeared biased in favor of the protester. Also in none of them could I find if indeed a law was broken by the protester. Do I see this as the Death of the American System... not really. A little over dramatic actually don't you think? I see this as a security guard caught on the spot by a man with a video camera. I saw a security guard not really explaining himself. Perhaps he was unsure of himself. Who knows. Things like this happen all the time in our day to day lives. I personally just move on. One reason why I do not discuss politics or religion. Too many sides to those issues.

Last, I have been to Russia. It was a wonderful vacation. Yet, I saw the military walking the street. I watched them stop people on the street and check papers. I myself was stopped and checked. They were real nice about it and it was not a big deal to me. But believe me. You want to see someone's civil rights violated, just break a law over there. When the police find you, good luck. I talked to Russians and they were terrified of the police.
