Colorado smokepole cow tag

Well, for the third year in a row, I will be hunting for a cow with my muzzleloader next fall. Was hoping for an either sex tag, but drew the cow tag as a second choice. Now have 3 points. Waiting 4 years between hunting a bull stinks, but I love chasing them enough with my muzzy that I will settle for a cow.

You can check and see if you drew using the backdoor method. Only elk is up, not deer yet.

I've had great opportunities on bulls every year so I went for bull this year and got a preference point and a 1st season rifle tag instead. The good news is I can still hunt September with an archery cow tag! Options are good!

You go into the "buy licenses" section on the Colorado DOW website and pretend you are going to buy a habitat stamp. Enter all your personal info data and hit "purchase habitat stamp". On the next page that loads, scroll down and it will tell you what licenses you have pending. Mine says 4XX (three number code starting with a 4) and is followed by elk tag app (application). The next entry (if you got drawn) will be a 5xx (five hundred number). If you see this number, you got drawn, but it doesn't tell you if you got your 1st or second choice.

In my case, it says 588- non res antlerless elk tag.
