Here's kind of a silly question since I own one. Does anyone know the twist rate on the TC Encore Super 209x.45. I just traded for this barrel, haven't even been able to shoot it yet. :( Weather has not been good. I did not get any manual on this barrel and can't find anything on TC's website about it . I mean TC doesn't even mention it on their site. I figured if anyone would know something , somebody on here would know. You guys are a huge wealth of info. I have been reading on here for months but haven't said much. My grandpa told me many years ago you can learn a lot from watching and listening . Thanks for any info you guys can give me in advance.

The earlier TC .45's were 1:20 twist, but there were accuracy problems with them. TC then replaced those barrels with a 1:28 twist in .45 cal. I owned the 1:20 barrel and never could get that barrel to shoot good groups. I ended up selling that barrel and eventually the entire Encore last year. Just my 2 cents, been there.

Guess I'm just spoiled by the Whites. :D

Steve,

Thank you for the reply I was begining to think my post was invisible. I think mine is 1:28 thank you for the differenciation however. I am going to try 180 gr xtp's this weekend. Do you have any other great info on these barrels?

Thanks
Wally

Yes, check your QLA (false muzzle at the end of the barrel/without rifling) and make sure it is centered. The TC muzzleloaders with QLA will only shoot a saboted bullet as I found out. I prefer a big ole conical, but the XTP is a very good bullet to try and will do the job on a deer. I like the Harvester crushrib sabot with the XTP. Good luck!!

Wally,

If yours is a Super45, I would bet that it is the 1:20 twist. You can check very easily by removing the breech plug,,,,then looking down the barrel,,,,if the rifling makes at least 1 full revolution in the barrel it is a 1:20,,,,if it doesn't make a full revolution it's a 1:28.

Most of the problem with the Wiz-Bang-Super-Duper 45's with the 1:20 twist was with T/C and Knight marketing them to shoot SHORT 155 grain pistol bullets at Mach speed with 150 grains of powder/pellets. They were very inaccurate with this type of set-up, unless you did your homework and actually worked up the best loads, you would be lucky to even hit paper.

I have a 1:20 Knight that shoots extremely well with the right bullet powder combinations. I also have a 1:20 White Elite .451 that will shoot saboted bullets and conicals very well. If your T/C is a 1:20, look for longer saboted bullets in 40 caliber that are 200 grains or more. The 195 grain Barnes ExpanderMZ is another good one due to it's length. The 350 grain White Shooting Star/Power Star will shoot lights out. You could also try the full bore conicals by Bullshop, No-Excuses, or White if you can find them.

Let us know what your twist rate is, we will get you pointed in the right direction.

Busta,

Thank you very much for the reply. You piqued my intrest so I checked it both ways. Looking down it, it does not quite make one full twist. Measuring with tight fiting ramrod it appears to be 1 in 28. I was going to start with 777 and xtp 180's as I have a 25ACP breech plug. Tell me what you think as I am very new and quite addicted to BP. In less than one year I already have a 209X.50 encore barrel, .45 Knight disc extreme, and this super 209X.45. Knight loves the 180 XTP in harvesterCR
sabots with 90gr. BH209. 50 cal loves the 777 110 gr. with 250 gr.sst in supplied red sabot. Would be nice if this barrel liked same as Knight but it is what it is.

Thanks
Wally
