I brought my new Accura into work today so I could get an exact measurement on the bore size and it measured at .499. This is a couple of thousandths smaller than I had thought. So I'm wondering what sabots/bullet would shoot well and still load fairly easy without having to beat them down? Anything off the shelf? Thanks again guys.

its pretty hard to get a dead on accurate reading of the accuras bore. they have some funky lands/grooves in there.

hornady xtp .451 in either a short black mmp-12 or mmp-24 sabot will do the trick. email harvester and they will send you some samples free to try out.

That's the area a lot of TC guns like the Triumph usually run.
The sabots to try are the Short Black Harvester the Long Black Harvester and the MMP HPH 24. If your barrel has tight spots in it get some JB Bore paste and polish it the tight spots are not usually a change in bore size but an unpolished area. If these don't fit and the should with a .451 or .452 bullet then try a Crush Rib.
Try a package of Shock Waves if they shoot well the try all 3 sabot with the bullets of your choice one of the will work with most bullets and the right load.

I agree, ive tried and cant get what i would call an exact measurement until i slug the bore. IMO though they are very close to .500-.501.

If you try some Harvester samples try their SMOOTH first in 45/50. They are just a tiny bit easier to load in my WinApex than the MMP black short. Both are very similar in accuracy. The MMP sabot base seems to seal just a tiny bit better though. This is with bullets from 200-275gr. Heavier/longer bullets might need more experimenting.

In 40/50 i really like the Crushribs best and in .458/50 i prefer the MMP.

Have fun!!

If that bore is really tht tight (.499) you might have to drop down to the thinner sabots to be able to load a project...

You mentiond that you took it to work to get the exact measurement, in that same effort did you check to see if the diameter was the same all the way down the bore? There are some folks indicating the the bore does get tighter right about where the recoil lug is mitered into the under side of the barrel? Just curious.

hornady xtp .451 in either a short black mmp-12 or mmp-24 sabot will do the trick.

Second, I have no idea where FG gets some of his information.

He is suggesting the thinner .451 rather than the normal .452 which might be a good thought, but then he goes on to suggest a short black mmp-12 or the mmp 24. Those two sabots are both the same length but the 24 is thinner. If you look at this thread you can see for yourself. Next, the 12 is a thicker sabot and with your tight bore I do not think that is you answer....

MMP does make a short black but it is not an HPH series and it is thicker than the 12

Check the pictures and measurements in this thread....

You can see the 12 measures a .506 in diameter.

Do you have any HPH-24's? if you do pull the BP and push a sabot-bullet combination down.... If it works great.... if it is as tight as expect using your measurments you are probably going to need a Harvester Crush Rib or the MMP HPH-3p-EZ-load sabot... Since I do not have an Accura - I am going strictly by your measurements... Another thought to remember, I am sure CVA cuts the bore tight as they would prefer that you shoot their line of bullets - Power Belts....

well excuse me but i have shot the 12 and 24 sabots with the 300gr xtp mags which i THOUGHT were 451. A simple mistake on my part. And i do have the rifle so thats an even bigger plus.

I did not measure the bore all the way down. I only measured approximately the first 2". I did remeasure before I left and you could call it a VERY tight .500.

I just got home and loaded it with a 300 gr. TC Shockwave Superglide and it loaded pretty stiff if thats anything to judge by. When I mic'd these bullets/sabots a couple of months back I came up with a measurement a hair under .505. So going by the info I have thus far, I'm thinking that I'd be content with a sabot/bullet combination around .503-.504.

Thanks for all the great info. guys. It's greatly appreciated.

just remember that the powders fouling will leave a residue that makes loading easier. In my Accura, the mmp 12s are super tight on a clean bore, but after i shoot one round, the next sabot loads very nicely. You'll just have to experiment with different loads and sabots.

good luck and be safe!

Same way in mine too.

First shot in a totally clean bore is a bit stiff but after that they load much easier.

HunterB4 I got my Accura last week and I think my bore is tighter also. I got some Thor conical samples and the .500 Thor was super tight. MMP will send you some samples of Sabots to try. They will send the HPH series and the standard MMP short black. A Hornady 250g XTP in a standard MMP black seemed to load just right. Hope to shoot it when the weather breaks. Let us know how yours does.

Black Crush Ribs

I went to Cabelas and picked up a couple boxes of the Harvester .45/.50 Black crush rib sabots. I stuck a 300gr. TC Shockwave in it and shoved her down the barrel. These sabots are EXACTLY what I was looking for. Thanks for all the help and info. everyone.

They really are hard to beat in some guns. The MMP 3 petal EZ aka Hornady Low drag is even a tiny bit smaller OD. Both work well in my guns.

I have a few ready to go with Speer 300gr soft points for the next time out.

Glad you were able to find what you needed.... Hope you get some shooting done soon.... Let us know how it goes....

Will do. I plan on making another quick trip to Cabelas to see if they have the Hornady XTP HP's in stock there.

Need to make up my mind on a scope for her too. Been considering a few, but still haven't made a final decision.
