What are the differences in the Apex/Omega(other than where they're made). Was the Apex a good rifle? Is the Apex the same gun as the Kodiac?

The Win Apex and the Omega only look a little bit alike but it is almost the same gun as a Kodiak Mag Pro. The newer Kodiak is a bit different than the older one but not much.

I used a CVA laminated thumbhole stock on mine, made for a Kodiak Mag Pro and it only needed very minor fitting. The barrel and action dropped right in. The screw holes in the stock just needed a countersink and 2 bushings in the stock.

Besides a few cosmetics the WinApex and CVA Kodiak Mag Pro are the same gun. The ONLY thing they have in common with an Omega is just the style of "drop action"....Basically a cheaper clone but not the same parts.

As far as i know the WinApex/CVA Kodiak do NOT share any parts with a TC Omega. They only look a little bit similar. The Omega IMO is a nicer gun too and probably better made. The Omega X7 version is just beautiful IMO and would love to have one.

At current pricing the Accura and the new Optima would be at the top of my CVA list.

Im happy with mine though but if the price was the same i would have chosen the Omega.

yes same gun with different stocks. bought a win apex when i started bp hunting and it shoot okay but had horrible blowback from the breach, it ruined my scope with bp corrosion. upgraded to a tc omega this year and couldnt be happier. shoots great, much better than my apex ever shot. and no blowback.

The Win Apex and the T/C Omega have the same style "drop action," but the similarities end there.

I had an Apex in .45 when they first came out from Winchester and it shot OK--under 2" for three shots at 100yards--but was never as accurate as the T/C Omega or the T/C Black Diamond I had at the same time (around 2002-3).

The Omega has much better fit and finish, a better trigger pull out of the box, and a better design--it is easier to access the trigger and breech face and firing pin for service and cleaning. The Omega action also strikes me as much stronger and better made. My Apex's action seemed to kind of cheap in comparison.

FWIW I think an Apex is absolutely fine for the guy who just wants a ML to shoot and hunt with a couple days a year and that is able kill deer to 140 or 150 yds. Also the Apex's closed breech design and the breech plug design should work well with BH209 IMO.

Since Blackhorn209 has come out, I kind of wish I still had the .45 Apex just to play with, but I sold it years ago and don't really miss it. I still have two old Omegas and they are not for sale.

Had a .45 Apex some years ago. Forum member Corey owns it now. With a 385gr paper patched conical, 275gr powerbelt or a 240?gr maxiball, all with 70gr Pyrodex P, One hole groups @ 50 yards and 1" groups @ 100 yards. Sweet little rifle. Why did i sell it to corey? :(

I called her black beauty.

Solid stock thats not flexy. Trigger on mine was around 3 1/2 lbs with no creep or grit. I did add some moly lube and that made it like glass. i owned it a whole 2 weeks before i got bored and moved on :d'oh!:

I am having bad blowback problems with my Kodiak.
Like you said,I noticed it all over my scope.
The Optima on the other hand has little to no blowback.

Blowby on my WinApex 50 is a bit worse than my Accura 45. I even load it a bit on the light side. Usually only 100gr BH209 or less and a 250gr bullet. It gets noticeably more with a 300gr bullet and/or magnum primers. Still not horrible though.

Using the same amount of JSG 3FG and Rem STS or Win209s it isnt too bad at all.

I might be trying some heavy weights this weekend.
