It is the newer variety - 1-30

Just one at a time but you should also have a "partridge on pear tree" just in case you never no...

Lee 9

'That's my story and I'm sticken to it' at least for now...

You have quite a collection of Knights now... beautiful rifle.

Nice rifle Sabot, will be lookin forward to the report.

Im so happy someone else is helping keep the 45cals alive. I would like to see a 1-24 twist 45 also. That old 1-20 was just a tad too fast for a wide variety of loads.

1-30 is better for things like 158gr 357/45 or lighter sabots if you are going for fps correct? That might be slow enough for PA pellets too for full bore mild loads. Ive been wanting to try some.

I would love to get a 1/24 45 cal twist.... 1/20 is to fast for me

I would believe that to be correct but I am far from an expert...

If it would stabilize high sectional density 357s and 40s, you would have a flat shooting freight train. I cant wait to try these 220gr 40s. They fit the sabots well. Crushribs the best IMO since cast are a tad over sized. Tan MMP/Hornady is pretty good but the 40/50 MMP/PRs are a bit tight at the base.

They should work if i can drive them hard but would prefer to stay at 100gr max. I will know when the weather breaks.....90% thunder storms tomorrow.

Hope those bullets work for you... let us know..

Suppose to pick up some snow here tomorrow and tonight....

Thought weinter was gon the Robins are back - they are not going to like snow...

He said new Muzzleloader. He makes no mention of used. He has an out IMO.

I never was no good at our language... but your statement really makes sense - I did say new! Wonder what Terry might say when I present your language explanation... It does offer some fudge room....

I just used the micrometer on the 40/45 sabots and 220gr Redline hard cast and again the Harvesters appear like a better fit for cast. Overall size is more consistent the full length of the sabot petals.

220gr .401 and Harvester smooth sabot = .456 and very little bearing surface is past the sabot. OD is consistent the full length of the petals.

220gr .401 and Hornady tan= .457 and .458 at the largest point. The sabot is a tad longer but covers slightly less of the bullet than the Harvester. Probably not enough to matter.

220gr .401 and MMP/PR 40/50=.506-.507. The bullet base is a bit tighter (larger) but the sabot extends just past bearing surface.

OAL of the 40 cal 220gr alone is .745 Bearing surface is about .530" long.

I can get some cast .406 260gr locally cheap if i want 500 but they are very long.

I was too busy at the gun show to get more done but at least i traded 50 of my 200gr 357FTX bullets for 20 Barnes .357 140gr XPB bullets. They look awesome and have about the same bearing surface as the 158gr plated Berry's HPs.....these might be awesome in the 357/45 sabots.....if the sabots dont blow.

Tomorrow is a 60% chance of rain but im going to see if i can get to the range for an hour just to see if they will stabilize.

Let me know if you want to try some of my bullet and sabot combos or 285gr conicals.

The weather caused the range to close AGAIN and its getting annoying. It would be great if sending you some would help get more data available for the forum's 45cal owners.

I would love to see how well and how fast you can get the Hornady 9mm Hornady XTP 147gr BTHP to shoot. I have a fair amount of these for my 9mm reloading. Del said he had good luck with these in his Blue 357/45 sabots.

Other bullets/components I have available that might be interesting.

.357 158gr Berry's copper plated HPs...best ive tried sofar for cheap 357s.
.357 125gr copper plated FP...i havent tried these..I think they are Berry's
.357 Barnes 140gr XPB...these look really good but expensive
.400 180gr Frontier copper plated RNFP and HP.
.401 220gr Redline Ballistics hardcast...of course :D...if these work in yours they should work in mine. If you want to try these i will include the Harvester smooth sabots and remove the lube in the groove.
PR QT 40/45 250gr BT Poly tip...i got another dozen.

Most of the rest i have are commonly available through Cabelas. The 200gr 40/45 SSTs have been the best by far in mine.

I also have some .31 cal dry lube felt wads i wanted to try IN some sabots between the sabot and bullet to adjust OAL for experimenting with shorter bullets. They really appear to help with the fit in PR 357/45 sabots. I have some Blue ones from Del on the way also.

.060 dry fiber wads...possibly might help protect the sabot base if you have blow outs...thats a BIG maybe.

50cal MMP sub bases and sabots if you want to try the 220s in a 40/50 loaded hot.

Helping you "experiment" helps all of us experiment so just let me know. Some bullets i have in bulk and could easily give you 1-2 dozen of each of the less expensive bullets. Im really wondering about the 220s in 50s too so if you want more of the Redlines.

Have a good one and thank you very much for the PM.

Scott
