Is the Accura ramrod not long enough to seat bullets as carried in the gun.? Why a add on extention?

if you have to swab in the field and the ramrod isnt long enough, your SOL. thats the reason for the extendable ramrod

I didn't like the extendable rods at first,I was used to a TC rod but now that I have gotten used to it I like them, just not the cheap plastic one.

I just usually screw a T-handle on my rod. It slows things up a bit if you need to load in a hurry, but works for me. I usually only need one shot anyway.lol

ramrod

So the rod is "not" long enough to seat a bullet as carried in the thimbles.

Thank you ronlaughlin, that is what I was looking for. If I buy one of these I will throw the supplied hollow rr away and replace it w/a SOLID alum. rod like the the TC and perm. attach a spin jag.

The Accura ramrod and the rings that hold it are my ONLY complaint about the gun.

Seems pretty much the same with all brands. Very few come with a really good one standard.

BTW in my 45 Accura, the stock ramrod is barely long enough to seat a 200gr and 100gr of BH209 without T handle extension. Nearly impossible actually. Swabbing all the way down leaves the rod below the barrel even with the rod extended.

IMO a very poor and noisy design but not uncommon.

RR

Thanks GM54-120 thats very helpfull. If I buy it I will buy a solid TC ramrod, intall a Superjag from PR then cut the other end off so there is approx. 1 1/2" of overhang(out in front) @ the muzzle.I shoot my Omega and prev. owned muzzleloaders like this w/no effect on POI or accuracy. Gives you a little more to hold on to.

I have replace the cva ram rod for the Accura with a solid aluminum TC rod. This rod is just shy of the muzzle when it is in the thimbles. It is plenty long for loading bullets. I use a ball with a hole drilled less than all the way through it for pushing the bullet home. I use no jag, just the rod. My rifle is a 50 caliber.

:D :) 8)

I don't know what other shooters are using but I use 100 grains of APP GOLD loose powder and a 295 grain powerbelt h/p and use the ram rod that came with my accura. Never had a problem with it. After you seat the bullet the rod is still about 3/4 or and inch sticking out of the barrel. Like F/G stated, the extension is great if you have to swab the barrel. So far I've put a few hundres rounds through both of my accuras and haven't had any problems with either one or the ram rods when loading at the range. :!:
