West Florida that is.
I have a friend in a little town called sopchoppy,it's south and west of Talahassee.I met him on the internet through our interest in shooting and hunting. In 2005 he shot the number 2 buck in the state and won the Buckmasters/Streamlight award. He's also in a wheelchair.Sinse meeting we try to get together for a late season ML hunt for deer and hog.I didn't make it last season.
He has a nice piece of property back in the woods with a sizeable biologic food plot, there is a corn and soybean feeder at 89 yards from the groundblind.
I should be able to leave by tomorrow afternoon and be able to hunt the following morning.
I'll be taking the 45 and 50 cal with an assortment of powders, bullets and primers to try out.
I have been wanting to try some of FG's custom powerbelts in the 45 with the APP FFF.
I'll set my buddy up with the 50 cal with whatever he wants to shoot.
He has a pretty nice range there.
I should be able to get on here with his computer so hopefully it will be as good as our last hunt together.

We got these deer on a hunt in Alabama in 2007 I think.

Good luck on your hunt SAXMAN. Sounds like a great hunt on a good piece of ground. We'll be looking forward to the pics.

Jay has only been able to hunt 1 time this season and has no deer in the freezer. We hope to do something about that.

Fla.

Saxman are those typical size bucks for the south or FL? I know in PA we'd have to let them pass as the Wildlife management unit WMU I hunt requires four points to a side. Here in OH, where I hunt, we would tend to let that size rack/deer go. I am not degrading the deer, I am interested in the size differences in deer in other states. I think it is AL you can shoot a deer a day? or some such number ? What is an average weight in other sections of the country?

The buck was shot on Ft McClelan in Anniston Al.
This was a two day hunt they put on every year for the Wheeling Sportsman.
You can only use Archery or ML and any deer is legal. He is a young deer and my second buck ever. The Doe was shot the next morning under the same rules.
They are both average for this part of the state 80 through 120lbs There are some big rack bucks in the state but I've never encountered one where I had a shot. There are also so tiney deer in the state like the Key Deer, talk about little.
The properties I hunt are not under any kind of management program or antler restriction.
For Fl a buck must have at least 1 antler 5"in length except during archery where anything is legal except for a spotted fawn.

I am not a horn hunter,I shoot legal deer.
I am not opposed to shooting a monster buck at all but get just as excited with a doe.I don't put antler restrictions on myself either,I suppose if I were covered up with bucks or had killed many bucks in my life I might make myself hold off on this one or that one but I'm not there yet.

I hope I didn't come off rude in my response.
I guess I get a little denfensive of our little deer down here.
I tell folks,It's what I have so it's what I hunt.

Deer

Hey Saxman

I agree with you. I am not a horn hunter either. I hunt for meat and any legal deer will do. I am in Vermont and we do have some big bucks up here but I take the first legal one that gives me a shot. Let us know how those inserts do, will you?

Good luck to you and your buddy!

Nope nat at all.
I hunt PA and OH. Big difference in deer size and on a whole rack size. I hunt farmland surrounded by mountains or hills and woods. The deer in OH have a pretty good opportunity to fill up on Soy beans and corn. Sounds like not so down where you are. Ohio hunters laugh at the size of the racks and deer we kill in PA when I show them pictures.

Howdy from Sopchoppy Fl.
Dang it was cold this morning,23 in the blind,BURRR!!!!!
No deer sightings today but it is nice to be in different woods with a different view.
The food plot looks great and the deer are using it for sure so hopefully I can get a deer for my buddy.
Something tripped one of the camara's in the pre dawn,I'll check the card tomorrow.
My friend is to ill to hunt with me so I have the run of the place, sweet!!
I plan on getting in some range time tomorrow if I don't make a kill.
I hope to have pic's to share soon.
