Took the traditons kentucky flinter out today. I was shooting American Pioneer powder out of it the other day with great success. Today i installed the RMC liner, took it out and had the worse hangfires/ fuse delays ever in a flintlock. I took 4 shots with the RMC liner and no matter what, i got a good hangfire. I installed the factory liner and no problems at all. In fact with 3f APP, it should fire just like it does with the real stuff.

Whats with this RMC liner? I could easily see the powder near the flash hole, i cleared that before each shot, and just horrible hang fires. I got a LOOOONG fuse fire on video! Im putting it together now and will upload it to youtube later on.

Well I use real black powder in my flinters, and with my RMC liners, I never had any problem with ignition. I do not know what to tell you.

Don't clear the powder from the touch hole; it's suppossed to be that way. No wonder you had hangfires.

YEP!! that's a hangfire. :D Those are good for you, they teach you to stay on target until you see the hole in the box. But there is a problem there. I suspect its the powder your shooting.

If the old vent works OK I would buy a supply of them and throw the other vent in the swamp. It's hard enough to keep flinters working in hunting situations you don't need the hassle of a vent with a mind of its own.

As hang fires go, those are the best I've ever seen. Possibly world class.

I have an RMC liner in my Great Plains and have always recommended them highly. Never had anything even close to that. I suspect it wouldn't be that slow even if you peed in the pan. Of course, I'm using GOEX.

liner

On my second season w/ the RMC vent liner. I bougt 2 and forgot to change it annually as I was instructed. Never had a hang fire like that.

I was at the range 2 weeks ago when a guy was trying to shoot a TC flinter. I saw a fireball the size of my fist come out of the pan, and delays similar to yours. Obviously the pan powder was igniting, so I offered some fffg Goex to try in place of his Pyrodex. Ignition with the Goex was near instantaneous.

My own (new) flinter was delaying more than I would like, so I drilled liner touchhole out from its smallish .050" size to 1/16", and ignition was improved considerably. Some guys go as large as 5/64" or so, but there are several number drill sizes between that might be worth trying.

The rear of the liner should be cone shaped to allow powder near the ignition source(pan). I think the straight section of the touch hole shouldn't exceed about 1/16" in length, but am open to hear other opinons on that.

Current TC liners use an allen wrench to install and remove so have a huge opening towards the pan, short (about 1/16") flash hole, and then a large cone at the rear. IIRC, the flashole itself is near .070" or midway between 1/16" and 5/64". It is large enough to allow fffg to dribble out, but ffg is OK.

fire in the hole

Cayuga taught me to put a pipe cleaner while loading powder ,into the touch hole, after pouring the load, slowly remove the pipe cleaner. Leaves a trail of powder from the main charge. I have a Lyman Deer stalker and I found by putting 3 or less grains of goex 4f on the outside of the pan, I seem to get a great fire. Only time I ever mis-fired or watched it sizzle was last year in rain storms. Everything damp and running water every where.

RMC liner

I use them in my TC and lyman flint guns never had that problem. It actually fix the same problem
