Just getting started in muzzle loading I have heard of some people using teflon tape instead of grease on breech plug threads. Has anyone out here been doing this and does the teflon tape need to be the one that is pink in color.

pink if you can get it but white will work just fine. grease or tape, its a personal choice. Just make sure you use one or the other. Never shoot it without anything.

bit of grease [very little] tape does not work for me because i can't finger tighten my breech plug .. T/C ENCORE

I use both. I wrap the breech plug with Teflon tape and then apply a very light coat of Slick 50 One Grease to the outside of the tape. The plugs come out nice and easy.

I have been using regular plumbers 1/2" teflon tape for years. Never had a problem and comes out much easier than grease.

I used to use a grey or silver if you will tape, it is rated for high pressure stainless applications. The problem I experianced with the tape was it would mash so tight into the threads I would have a had time removing all of it from the plug. I never had a plug stick with it either.

I started using Knight grease and have been very pleased with it. It does not blow out and coat the breach area and alows me to remove the plug several day's after shooting if needed. I also feel that the application of the grease is easier than the tape and more precise.

Super-Lube

I use Super-Lube Synthetic Grease. It is good to high temps. Some of the Muzzleloader Manufacturers are marketing this grease in 1.5 oz. tubes for $6.99-$9.00 (T/C, Knight)....... You can buy a 4.5 oz. to 6 oz. tube from Super-Lube at a local Hardware Store......$4.00 - 6.00.......
