Do you guys tape the end of your muzzle to prevent rain, moisture, debri from entering? Black tape acceptable and safe?

I use the black electrical tape on the end of my knight. It keeps out the elements and reminds me gun is loaded. Has zero effect on my accuracy.

I dont bother in my inlines anymore as I try not to hunt in the rain (lost a few and it hurts). When I first got into muzzleloading I used to put a plastic sandwich baggie over the muzzle used a rubber band around it to hold it in place.

I used to use tape (electrical) over the muzzle. I have stopped using it and am just mindful of the muzzles position, try to keep it down. No reason other than I forgot a couple times and had no problems .

I had a buddy tell me he ask his proctologist for some of those "one finger" gloves. When he was asked what he wanted them for he told the doc they were to keep the elements out of his barrel. The doc told him they sold condoms just for that purpose.
Just a thought.

I just by a cheap bag of ballons and pick out the smaller ones and let some kids have the rest. They blow right off at the shot, no effect on accuracy at all. Like one of the others mentioned it is a good reminder that the rifle is loaded.

The finger cots [used for handling paper work] are excellent for the purpose. I bought a 100of them and have used 3 or 4 a year.

I feel a lot more comfortable with a boot on the muzzle than tape - bt I know tape works....

Then Saxman1 actually found the best ones I have ever used... they are called the 'Ultimate Bore Protector'

I use the finger bandaids you can buy at Walmart. They look like a tiny condom. Just roll it down on the barrel, and it'll stay dry.

I normally tape the muzzle and the ram rod with black tape. Last year I went out on a quick scout and did not. Got to my stand and my Power Rod had vanished. I don't know how important it really is anymore to tape the muzzle, but I won't hunt without taping the ramrod again.

Muzzle tape

Hey, I'm with ShawnT, those little water ballons are cheap and work great. A small bag would last years,

Not only good advise....but "diverse" as well....

I carry rubber exam gloves to field dress and you can cut the fingers out and they make great covers for the barrel end.

Knight used to sell something that looked like a little black condom to slip over the muzzle - I guess for some guys these could be dual purpose . . .
