I can't believe the lack of deer sightings this season,It has been very slow here.
I went to the blind where I shot the 8 point.
I got in early as the solar/lunar table indicated a minor feed in the afternoon.
At about 5:30 I was glassing the cut (161 yards max range) and saw a deer come in at 135 yards according to Bushnell.I could see the head and neck down to where it meets the shoulders.I was hoping the deer would come my way but it turned and walked away to the end of the cut.
Even at 10x on the binocular I couldn't tell if it was a buck or doe.It wasn't a very tall deer but it showed me I need to do some trimming down there,I need to see more than that.
I had the CVA Kodiak 45 cal with me(90 grn BH 209 / 195 grn Dead Center / CCI M / 3x9x50 optics) and with the light fadindg fast(it is dark @ 6:00) I just didn't get that warm and fuzzy feeling about a shot so I never even shouldered the rifle.
I shot my 8 point @ 52 yards with the same view of the deer but 135 is a long way from 52 so no regrets.

It was great to just see a deer :D :D

seeing deer is half the fun. When we had a herd here in Wisconsin, half the enjoyment of the day was watching the deer interact. Now all we see is pine squirrels.

cayuga, wisconsin's dnr must be on the same program as michigan's dnr is because deer numbers are way down here. Each hunter can purchase upto 5 doe permits along with 2 buck tags and I think it flat out sucks. :(

Where did they go?

I think due to Chronic wasting disease? In endemic areas they have killed too many deer in the hopes it will stop it. Unfortunately, that will not work. Even as a vet, I have no idea how to stop this disease. I hope research turns something up.

I too haven't seen as many this year as I usually do here in southern Michigan. Except for a few recent days, the weather has been the warmest I've seen in years. And what's with the wind direction with a southern influence - many times I either didn't go out or hunted a spot that I didn't want to just because of those southern winds. The deer are there, I saw as many rubs and scrapes this year as I ever have.

Some days you're the windshield, some days you're the bug!

I go by the butcher shop just to see what one looks like!!

I have 2 older children who live in Oshkosh Wisconsin and both work at the same returant/bar part time and go to school part time.
They both say the hunters in the area report lower deer sightings and fewer kills.
It's tough all over
